This isn't exactly the kind of question to ask a lawyer so I'm hoping someone might know here. Do I leave my official will at the scene of my ctb? If so will the police take it and therefore wouldn't get to the right people? Do I hide somewhere in the apartment and send my executors a delayed email? But then I'm worried they wouldn't get the delayed email for whatever reason. Is there any write up about this somewhere? I can't really tell my executors that I have made this will as then obviously alarms will be ringing

I would not leave the official will at the scene. Not a good idea. That's a very important piece of paper. A copy of it is OK. I do think sending a delayed message to your executors is a good idea about where they can find your will. If you're concerned about them getting the messages, be redundant and setup multiple email accounts with delayed send features and send multiple messages to them that way. I'm not sure if text messages have a delayed send feature. Maybe there is an app for that? You can also have a note in the apartment telling them where your will is. Leave a note with yourself telling the police who to contact. Also, depending on where you live, sometimes your will can be filed directly with the court. Nothing suspicious about that. That's what I did. Your official will should be kept in a strongbox at your home, or in a bank's safety deposit box, along with any further instructions you would like to leave.

Also, make sure your friends, family, your "executors" are familiar with your "new" email addresses before you go, so the messages don't end up in spam, or simply get deleted. Nothing suspicious about creating new email addresses. People do it all the time.

I think it needs to be written and filed properly.

People will argue you didn't write it in a clear frame of mind if it's with you at CTB.

I'd make one in advance using a proper legal service.

A will is a legal document. They cannot just chose not to execute it. If you die, legally they have to check if you have one, and if you do they have to follow it. People die unexpectedly all the time without their will being neatly placed, and it will still be found.

Yes, just leave it at the scene, the police will give the Will to the executors

Thank you for your response!

do police typically give it to the executors? Or does it become evidence or something

Hm I checked unfortunately my state doesn't seem to allow lodging before you die, that would have been very handy

You need to check the laws in your area and get a traditional will. Make it official. When you die might be in your control. This document determines what happens with your stuff and keeps it in your control. Something quickly written or found at the scene will likely fail a challenge and might not be enforcable at all.
Like death itself, do it right the first time.

You should go to an attorney and have him draw up a will for you. He will keep a copy of it for his records. Send your attorney a delayed email before you ctb telling him that you are dead. Your attorney is required by law to file your will with the probate court within 30 days of learning of your death. Keep your will in a safety deposit box at the bank where it will be safe. You could also send a delayed email to your executor telling him to contact your attorney and inform him of your death. Also tell your executor that you have a copy of your will in a safety deposit box at the bank and leave him the details so he will be able to get it.
