Ex - Muslim, atheist now.
I used to be a Muslim too. But now, I'm an Agnostic-Theist. I believe that religions exists to make sense of the things we can't see in this life. No matter what, a person can't see beyond what they are capable of in this life.
I'm a little curious since I have never heard of a person leaving Islam. I mean, there are many people who left the religion then reverted and most of the people now are converting after learning about. Did you study Islam back then? Why you left Islam?
( No offence intended. TBH, I am a lot curious because I don't see this often. )

The reason I left Islam is that I realized that there is no evidence of the validity of religions in general, and I had some problems with Islam, the first of which is that it is a religion that contradicts logic in many aspects and contains violence, sexual slavery, humiliation of women...etc.
For me, religions exist to control people and nations, and it is a powerful tool in the hands of the state to control minds and flocks.
Did you study Islam back then
Yeah, I studied Islam and delved into it for a year and discovered that it is a myth and a human creation\man made.

I've always felt like a person that should have been religious. I've looked through a bunch in my youth, but nothing stuck. Way too many of them are just really old, they might have been relevant hundreds of years ago, but today they just feel anachronistic, focused on things that do not matter. Most people following religion don't even follow it properly, they go through the motions but otherwise they're living in a modern way with modern thoughts. Even the positive parts of their religion are largely lost on them. They go to church and then worship capitalism when their own god would find them disgusting. There's no modern religion that struggles with present concepts. So I made my own. But there's no sky fairy in mine, so no false comfort, doesn't help with avoiding a desire to CTB much.

Thank you so much for sharing! I think your religion is your personal faith and you have to be comfortable with it!

I agree with you! My dad says " none is really following or practicing religion the right way anymore" thank you so much for sharing!

Atheist. I believe that we already know where we go when we die, we go back to where we came; You have already been there. Before you were born. It is hard for the brain to conceive this idea as it can only perceive 'nothing' as ideas such as black or silence. However, these are merely the absence of light and the absence of sound which are, in fact, something. I feel no fear and I have no need for the comfort of a god as our fear and empathy is merely a neurochemical phenomenon and a response to stimuli, which will cease upon death. Those who seek peace in religion often do so in order to avoid coming to this realisation, as it is a deep hole which is hard to get out of once you have realised it.

So you believe that once we die, we're gone forever there is no after life. It's peaceful to just not exist anymore. I asked one of the doctors i work with which he's also Atheist and he told me a lot of things I couldn't comprehend but some of it make sense.. thank you for sharing

I think that humans have spent far too much time worrying about the 'meaning' of our existence. I am not a nihilist, if life is enjoyable for you then it is a gift and a blessing that nature allowed us to develop this way. However, life is not sacred or anything, there is no good reason why you should not be permitted to end your own life if you so wish to do so. It is yours to do with as you please and there is no greater meaning behind it, enjoy it if you want, or end it. I agree that it is peaceful to just cease to exist.

I agree with you! I think I'm just confused when it comes to religion I don't know what to believe anymore, but it's convincing giving what we are suffering in life that there is no God to begin with..

Why you changed?
I was a Muslim, now I am an atheist or agnostic. Because I find religions unconvincing and human-made.

I never followed a standard religion, but I don't think I'm Atheist. I'm kind of spiritual and believe all religions have some truth to them and that's about it. I think it's had very little to do with CTB for me.

Raised catholic but I'm pretty much agnostic now. I still kinda believe in God and he's much nicer in my own way of seeing him. Perhaps 10% of me believes there's an afterlife and the rest believes there is just the void after death. The void sounds more comforting. Just peaceful nothingness.

What's your religion and how it's effecting your CTB decision?
I am a Christian though I have stopped practicing almost entirely. I still believe in God. I just struggle with everything. Why God would do this and allow me to feel this way for so long along with all the other fucked up things I went through in life. I just don't quite understand I guess. It feels like my prayers fall on deaf ears. Though I am not sure I believe in prayer.

As far as affecting my decision. It's tough. Some say it is an unforgiveable sin, others don't. It certainly is a choice. One I feel forced into but a choice all the same. I fear the consequences. What happens if the day after my life is restored. What happens if my punishment is seeing the good life I could've had if I waited. Then again what happens if there is no help, no restoration, no opportunities, and this hellish nightmare is my present as well as future. Then I'd be angry if I didn't. I feel like I am in an inescapable hellish purgatory that I beg for everyone for help with as they sneer at me and turn away. Bible verses and things like that don't help. I wish for a miracle and God ends my suffering. I don't think ill get it. So it has a role, I think about it, I still believe, but it probably doesn't have as big of one as you may think. Maybe the best way of putting it is it's in God's hands. it isn't a test I know God detests that. It's just a fact. i can only deal with so much I am weak I suppose. If help isn't given. Some restoration. i will CTB. I pray that he helps. truly I want to live. Though I know like this I won't for much longer. I do believe regardless of how I die and when it is I will go to heaven.
