Eurasian (or Common) Magpie (Pica pica).
Always remind me of the nursery rhyme: "One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told"

There's a bunch of crows hanging around in front of my windows a lot of the time, I feel like we have a connection. And a lonely seagull mixed in the group for some reason, that guy shat on my terrace so I'm not on good terms with him.

Probably like swallows the most, I like how they swoop around and the way they build their nests. None of them around where I live right now sadly.

My favorite to watch would have to be brightly colored ones, we don't have many around here, so really only blue jays, gold finch and cardinals.

Only birds I've ever been able to interact with that were not domesticated/tamed would be crows, you give them some seed and they become friendly and even sometimes get close to you overtime.

I also just like birds in general, the way most of them bounce and hop around I find it pretty funny.

Pretty generic but I love English robins, a long time ago a friend I had was committed to a pysc unit and we didn't have contact for months, one morning I was having a smoke and saw a Robin in the garden and got a call from them! Since then they've always been my fave. That same friend died unexpectedly died recently so I always keep an eye out for robins when I'm out and say hello when I see one

I don't know much about birds at all but I had a special encounter with a western blue bird once. I'll never forget it. Western Bluebird

Cassowaries - with both their appearance and their calls I inevitably associate dinosaurs, which were pretty cool.

X

(They have very sharp claws, which was probably the reason why the person in the video panicked.)

Shoebills - they also look like prehistoric birds and are able to produce interesting sounds with their beaks.

X3

Lyrebirds - they are able to mimic complex sounds in great detail, both other bird sounds and man-made sounds like alarms or chainsaw noises (which is pretty darn sad).

X2

they bully sparrows and other small birds (mostly just by grabbing food) and i've seen huge flocks of them lmao. plus they make LOUD CAWS/SCREECHES. very fun to chase around.
i will say that my hatred of seagulls is entirely theatrical, and i would never hurt a seagull... unless. (jk, if i tried to hurt a seagull it'd probably beat me up)
Yeah, I don't mind seagulls on their own but I don't like it when they hog and fight over all of the food I try feeding my beloved pigeons. They are funny little creatures though, and could definitely take me in a fight.

please do not answer "crows/ravens/etc" to be edgy.

...that being said, my favourite birds are crows lmaooo. i've never seen one irl cause they don't exist in NZ but they're smart! and can mimic human speech! and like shiny things!

i'm also a huge fan of all small, fluffy birds. watching sparrows and fantails hop around is always so cute! if you're on a dirt/stone path, fantails will follow you to see if you stir up any insects and omg it is the cutest thing EVER-

bonus points to the kereru/NZ wood pigeon bc they sit around like

Cardinals, of course (hence my username). I specifically think female Northern Cardinals are quite beautiful! I love the subtle coloration of their feathers. I'm also quite fond of Common Starlings and Grackles!

I befriended some crows that enjoyed a fallen tree in my backyard after a tornado. They didn't like my dogs, but I drank my coffee with them early in the morning and one even left me a couple "gifts" in exchange for the food I tossed to them. One got close enough to let me pet his wing. He took a few gulps of my smoothie.

The gift pile included: 2 glass pebbles, a silver half dollar, some shreds of easter grass, a tiny doll (I think an LOL doll?), and a spent book of matches with a silver cover. Also a gram-baggie that clearly contained a kind of stimulant.

Aside from corvidaes, I love pigeons. I used to live in New Orleans and I read tarot cards by day. I started to notice familiar pigeons, and there was one with a clubbed leg/foot. He never got any of the food because he walked slower than the others, so I started luring him to my tarot table and fed him a pigeon appropriate blend of stuff I could shoplift or afford (I was homeless during this period). It got to the point that when I was setting up my table at 5 AM, he was waiting for me to feed him. Then he started staying under my table because it was shady and I made him a bath/water dish to help him stay cool. Tourists saw me as "the tarot reader with a pigeon", so it helped my personal business to the point I was making over 500 a day and got a small apartment. Idk if the atttention or food helped him get stronger, but he found a mate and started spending more time with her. He still hung out with me later in the day, and his lady-friend hung back in a tree nearby.

A friend of mine from back then is still in Nola and she said she saw him in Jackson Square. His head is all white now and he mostly just roosts on a pillar or window. I hope he doesn't think I abandoned him. I called him Gilbert, btw. I wish I could have made him a comfy roost and kept him, but he's clearly done well. I hope he's had all the babies he wanted. And maybe I'll see him in the afterlife.

Sorry for the wall of text.
