  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I've seen quite a few people who just have said some... quite incorrect or just insensitive takes on people are depressed/want to CTB. I know these kinds of takes are not impossible to find online- easy with a little internet searching, but what about real life? As in, people you have interacted with in person more so. I can give an example of one of my dad's friends saying that if someone feels like CTB then they are defective and we should just keep them in prison, because mental hospitals aren't good enough and they don't deserve sympathy. Not an exact quote, of course, but something along those lines. And to add on to the question, did whoever say that take know that you are depressed/have tried to ctb or have thoughts about it/sh/are not in the best mental state etc.? and if it was a bad take, did you try to correct it or let it slide/pretend to agree/say nothing?

"No please don't you have so much to live for" "everyone loves you so much" "how selfish that you even tried did you even think about how we'd feel" "but you're so pretty" (that was a weird one) but yeah mostly from people who don't know what I deal with it's just general comments about selfishness, attention seeking etc

I think you going to Hell for all eternity is probably the worst take, I imagine.
A common one is that it's the 'easy' way out. Which is absurd when thinking about how hard it is to overcome survival instincts.

Well after I came out of my 2nd hospitalization I told my coworker he replied that with: "isn't a bit selfish? In that moment did you think about the people you were going to hurt"?

Idk if he ment well we don't get along as much but I just replied that honestly no I didn't. I explained that all I coukd think.of in the moment I wanted to end it as soon as possible. Get it over with moslty

But I did look at highpoint of view tho.

oh my god i haaaate when people say this. i feel like calling someone selfish for being suicidal is like the worst possible thing you can say to them. like why on earth would you think that calling me a bad person would make me any less likely to kill myself ??

My dad and his "What about the soldiers that died for you?" and "You haven't suffered as much as me" rambles. He knows I'm in quite a lot of pain, and he is right when he says that I probably don't appreciate as much as I should. I am aware of all that I do have, but I can't continue with this alone...

He never served btw.

About my childhood friend who CTB when he was 11: "well, he made a stupid decision."

Just cannot imagine calling an 11 yo who was bullied for being gay stupid after he took his own life. From my own dad, too.
