In Europe it's hanging and in the US it's guns - I think.

Hanging seems to be very common from what I'm aware, at least where I live as guns aren't an option. Most suicides that I've heard of in the media seem to be hanging, I envy those who managed to succeed.

Hanging I think, probably not because of preference but because of accessibility.

Studies have cited men are more likely to try "violent" methods, such as hanging, jumping, jumping in front of a train etc. Women are more likely to attempt overdose.

But it also depends on the stats you look up by country. And we cannot account for undocumented attempts or cases the coroner didn't rule as suicide.

Why do you think that is?

There's a whole bunch of hypothesised theories in this study re the gender paradox in suicidality but it's a long read:

I don't know what I think because when it comes to suicide, mental health, and rationale for ctb, I'm a big advocate for the need to recognise the individual and their unique circumstances and thought processes. I don't like generalisations. But they basically surmise things like women are less ashamed of changing their mind, more worried about physical appearance even after dying, more likely to worry about loved ones reaction to their disfigured corpse, etc. Also socialisation and men being more naturally aggressive. Again though, I've known plenty gentle men and plenty aggressive women 🤷🏻‍♀️
