ctb is not cowardly. It is quite the opposite, it is hard to take our own lives as we have to overcome our survival instinct as our brain is programmed to live. It requires a lot of courage.

Many people who haven't been suicidal themselves cannot comprehend what it is like, suicide is an act to free ourselves from the pain this life gives us. In a world like this, it can be seen as rational.

CTB is the ultimate freedom and bravery. It's inhumane to expect others to suffer in a life they can't even choose.

this is because she does not suffer like you. The people who say this do not have the faintest idea of what it means to live our suffering lives.

It takes great courage to kill yourself. I would also say, live a day in my shoes, experience what I've experienced, maybe you'd have a different frame of mind.

I'm sorry you had this experience.

People like her are lucky that they may never have to experience depression or even suicidal thoughts in their lives, but feel it's okay to impart their finite knowledge on the subject as absolute truth. It's why I stopped telling people and close friends/family about my issues in life because I always get some shitty answer, platitude, or "Ermahgerd, sUicIDE iz lek 4 coWarDSSS".

Suicide can be frightening, but to make that choice and then to proceed to act on it, is the strongest thing anyone can do, we are programmed to fear death, we are programmed to shy away from what happens to us all one day, to take that head on and do it via our own hands is not a cowards way out. Those pro lifers see us as cowards as they believe we are running from an issue they believe can be solved, when reality is they don't realise we have spent months, years trying to sort our *issues* already. Suicide is our only hope of finally having peace from hell, that is not a coward that is someone strong enough to say they are done with it all

The one person who angrily told me that suicide was unforgivable, confessed to me that she had started to feel suicidal four or five months later.

I wouldn't take what this girl said to you too personally, people frequently speak out of ignorance.

A few years ago the subject of suicide came up in one of my talks with my friends. Since they don't know anything about my intentions, I was shaping my opinion according to what they said; I already felt bad about it because most saw it as something cowardly or an "easy way out".

Hmm.. I am not sure I am allowed to use the words here that I would say in response to that person.

A lot of people seem to be under the delusion that ending one's life is an easy or a cowardly act. It is anything but, and it is very clear that this person has less empathy than a fruit fly.

Also, "penis in the brain" ?!?!?!?

SMH - how old is this person?

They really said that?!?!?!

O.O

Who says stuff like that? Someone with a vagina in the brain? (Sorries, that was snarky, but really???? SMH, I will never understand some people.)

When I was a young child I remember seeing on the news that someone had killed themselves and I really could not comprehend why someone would do that. I remember talking to my mother about it and she explained to me that someone has to be in a great amount of pain to even contemplate suicide. But still as a naive kid I just didn't understand it. It is so true that one cannot begin to understand suicide unless they've been in a position where they've seriously considered it themselves.

Now that I'm currently in that position, I look back at that young version of me with jealousy. How life was so great when everything was just fine. Suicide is the biggest decision you will ever make, being able to carry it through takes balls. It is not at all cowardly, exposing yourself to pain, depending on which method you choose, and the fact that you are fully aware that these are your last conscious moments. To me, the easy way out is just getting on with life.

I feel like the average person doesn't really know how hard it is to actually kill yourself, as they never did any true research on it. For example, I bet the majority of the population believe a drug OD death is much more guaranteed than the reality of it.

Your friend doesn't sound mature enough to have conversations on such loaded topics. The thing is, many people simply don't like to concern themselves with really thinking about "heavy" i.e. controversial and/or depressing subjects such as CTB so they don't really have a thought-through opinion of their own on the matter, which seems to be the case with your friend. They simply repeat one or two platitudes about it that they heard from others, which might range from "life is precious" to "suicide is for the weak". But the truth is that not only they "don't get it", they don't want to "get it" because trying to understand CTB is upsetting.
People you can safely tell about your CTB plan and expect a reasonable reaction are few and far between. I don't think your friend is one of those people, unfortunately, and I don't think arguing with her on the topic of CTB can change that. Sorry that she didn't have a reaction you hoped for, that kind of sucks.

First of all I would remind this person that cowardice does not exist, it is just another silly word used to negatively manipulate a persons behaviour through the use of guilt - peer pressure. The definition of the word "coward" differs from culture to culture; which is why in some parts of the world the act of suicide is seen as the opposite of cowardly. Now for the next part of this post I will temporarily accept that I do believe in cowardice for the sake of making an example...

I would also argue against their claim by turning the discussion around: it is "cowardly" to condemn suicide because this subject reminds them that one day they, too, will die - it scares them. But those who are suicidal for rational reasons have accepted the inevitability of death, and are confronting this reality that we all share directly instead of hiding away from it. However: in the future death might be defeated due to potential advances in technology, so this argument might be invalid given time.

For me, it makes no difference. I believe differently because I have a perspective that lets me understand why someone might decide to leave.
So to address your question, I would agree with the person because I have no interest in debating ignorant opinions that are biased and don't want to engage with the nuanced subject.
With certain people it is not worth to discuss about it, especially if such a statement came as with your "friend". Unnecessary waste of energy.

Some people say it's for cowards. Other say it's for braves. For me it's for people that are not interested in life anymore or suffered too much, not cowards nor braves. I really hope everyone could improve their lives but sometimes I feel like giving up.
