  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at admin@sanctioned-suicide.net.

What would you do if you walked in on a fellow student/colleague thrashing at the end of a rope?

Would you close the door and let them CTB or would you try to save them?

This is a question about how you would react in an instance not something about a thoughtful response.

If their wish was to die, then I have no right to stop them. Although, I selfishly thought of repercussions for allowing it to happen.

I would like to say I would not "save" someone and cause them a life of brain damage and suffering. But in truth I'm not sure what I would do in the rush of adrenaline, I really might just "save" them in actions of pure instinct and then hate myself for it later on.

That might seem callous but in my view it's a fate worse than death I'd be inflicting on them.

I'd freak out and probably freeze and panic. Shit, I'd have to ask them if they want me to help them, but I'd really socially anxious and timid so I'm not sure I'd be able to say those words. But if I was braver I'd ask them if they want me to save them or leave them alone.

I guess my natural helping instinct would still want me to save them, even if I also believe in the freedom to ctb. But if they really insisted on not being saved, then it would be my duty to honor their wish. And also if they really wanted to be saved, I'd save them.

That's how I feel as well. Instinct would take over but regret would stay with me.

I know myself pretty well, and truth be told I'd probably look them in the eyes and ask them if they want me to stop them. If not, then I'd close the door. It's hard to ctb, if they found the strength to, it's not my place to stop them.

if im being completely honest i think i would scream and then freeze and then run around in a circle and then maybe hide for a while and then cry and then check on them and call the police if they were dead (would maybe try to check pulse first).

not saying any of these things are the best response, but freaked out me would probably react this way uwu

We all have the right to exit this world at a time of our own choosing, it is our life, our decision and it is nothing to do with anybody else. I would just leave them alone as they have chosen to exit this world and I would respect their decision.

If they were still alive I'd try to get them down, of course. The odds of walking in on someone still alive at the end of a rope are quite slim though I'd imagine.

I would "save" them. There's no time to think in that situation, instinct would take over. It might not be the best decision, although I would be in serious legal trouble if I didn't rescue them anyway. They might hate me after. Point is, I wouldn't think of any of that, I would just see someone who needs "help"/"in danger" and try to save them. It'd be the same if someone was about to get hit by a car / train or something. Or someone drowning, I suppose, if I was a good swimmer.

It's only afterwards you can think and blame yourself.

I would cut them down and seek help for them immediately, as any right-thinking person would. To not do so would be to condemn myself to a lifelong trauma and agonising over whether l allowed someone to die when perhaps they *could* have been saved. This is why you need to be sure you're not interrupted, it's absolutely unfair to potentially put someone else in that position.

There could be a lot of bad repercussions for a person who didn;t try to rescue someone in this situation, both legal and otherwise, so I think I would almost certainly help, even though I support a person's right to choose- if you don't help it could mess up your own plans a lot. So I think people need to consider this that most people would feel obligated to "help" in this situation for a variety of reason, even if they support choice. I could just say I would walk away to try to avoid upsetting people, but in the situation I think this is how most people would react. I don't knwo the laws here, a person could put thmeselves at bi8g legal risk if they don't help, and ctbing in jail is much more difficult, so I would want to avoid this situation.

I think I would try to get them down. I do appreciate people's freedom to choose, but I know in that situation I would panic and try to "save" them. Not saying it's the right or best thing to do, just knowing myself that's most likely what I would do.
