Nothing I can do really. They're too far up to hear me, I'm not in a good state of mind to convince them, and I don't think letting them know to do a barrel roll on the way down is helpful.

I don't know. What are you supposed to do? Climb up, try to talk them down, maybe grab them as they jump and have them pull you over with them? Sorry, not looking to die that way. Actually, it's really sort of a gruesome and traumatic way to go, especially for this who see it. Doubt I would watch.

Probably just watch lol. And call emergency if it's clear they survived. Maybe. Would that be the actual right thing to do? If they're screaming for help, sure, but what if they're so mangled they can't talk but are still not dead?

If I was in some kind of position to advise or talk, I might try. "Hey, I noticed you seem to want to jump. Just to let ya know, this height and the landing area might be kind of iffy for success. Have you by chance heard of SN?"

I'm a curious person, so I would politely ask for a brief pause to know her or his life story, give some feedback, then I would confide with the person my own relationship with suicide and make clear that I would respect the decision the person takes.

This actually happened to me. A neighbor jumped from his 4th floor apartment at 5 am in the morning. I was in bed about to fall asleep and i was living at ground floor.The sound was very heavy. I went to look on the window but couldn't see anything because it was still dark outside. I thought that maybe something else fell and went to bed...but in the back of my mind i also thought of the possibility of a person being there. I couldn't sleep well. At 9 am i woke up...police was in front of my window. It was a man who lost one leg and the doctors wanted to amputate the other as well. He felt like a burden to his sister who took care of him so he jumped....he made so noise. I lived in that apartment for only 6 months and in that time span another woman jumped from the 7th floor with a hat pulled on her eyes. But she did it on the other side of the block. And in the past others did the same in that block. I don't regret i haven't announced the police or went out to inspect. He certainly wanted this and i would have caused him more harm if i tried to save him....in case he didn't die right away....he never made any noise.

I'd want to ask them what brought them to that point and hear their story if they were willing to share. I wouldn't try to stop them unless there seemed a reason to, like they were looking for help and didn't want to go yet. I'm not sure if I could watch or not, I go back and forth between being incredibly numb and feeling too much so I don't know how I'd react or what I'd be capable of.

Good question. I'd be a hypocrite if I tried to stop them, but then again, I'd probably have to because if I walked away, I could be charged in connection to their death.

Hopefully I will never have to find out.
