So I work alone at nights as a part time janitor and usually I'll listen to podcasts, lectures, archived livestreams, video essays and (most importantly for this thread) audiobooks. I haven't listened to a proper audiobook in a while and I noticed I have a credit on audible to spend. I only have cursory knowledge of Cioran, but given his reputation I find him somewhat intriguing and thought it might be worth getting into.

Is there anything I should be thinking about or aware of before I start him? May stuff I should look out for or know to make note of ahead of time? Maybe it's better to read him in print?

I'm thinking I'll probably start with A Short History of Decay. Just from briefly looking through overview of various options that seemed the most appealing and up my alley. But I'm not 100% certain.

And yeah I'm reading/listening in translation.

Maybe SaSu isn't the appropriate place for this but I thought given why many of us are here anyway I'd find people familiar and that Cioran is a fitting subject matter.

It's poetic and bleak and pessemistic

It's honest

It may make you feel better if you are looking for others who feel bad

It may also make you feel worse

He died of natural causes, I believe.
