What is a psychiatry appointment like? How do I ask to be assessed for certain things?

I have my first psychiatry appointment on 2/03. It's taken years to get because I wasn't able to get myself to schedule it and put my name on the waitlist and everything but now it's finally here. I **need** to be assessed for BPD and ADHD. How do i make sure this happens? I don't know what I would do if I can't get it and it's an intake appointment, that'll leave me having to book another appointment for 3 months after my first one. I need help immediately.

Firstly i would be honest with psychiatrist, tell him that you suspect yourself to have ADHD and BPD, she will asks your questions, will talk to you etc. You will probably do some tests and then you get your diagnosis.

Honestly i think intentionally trying to get diagnosis in certain disorders isnt a good idea

Butttt if you absolutely needs it then there is certain book called DSM5 which is a tool used for diagnosis mental disorders...

DSM5 is only used in the US. UK uses the WHOs ICD11.
In some circumstances in the UK, you need the diagnosis to access relevant services.

You can simply say that to the psychiatrist at the beginning of the appointment, about your fear of having to wait 3 months and that you want to be assessed for BPD and ADHD. They will likely know best how to approach that situation. How long it takes and how many appointments it takes must depend on your country and its health system

i had my first appointment recently. He asked me why i had the appointment and what i wanted out of it. Then he ruthlessly interrogated me about my life and childhood

Certain places in Europe also use DSM5. Also depending on diagnosis and severity suspected, they might send you off to do some neuropsychological testing as well, but that would happen further down the line after DSM5 if ever deemed needed.

I\ve never been assessed for ADHD but my autism assessment took 3 hours and the diagnostic report was 40 pages long. Mine was diagnosed by an NHS specialist clinical psychologist and I don't know if its different with a psychiatrist or different country but diagnosing BPD and ADHD in a single appointment seems optimistic tbh.

Oh my thank you, me2 Im trying to read manga to experience this story for first time again, and then maybe a novel. I love soundtrack from it especially Youkoso Hitori Bocchi!
