This question came to my mind because I remembered that a German treasure secretary (on federal level) commited suicide when the pandemic started. He was a conservative.
Moreover I think WInston Churchill was suicidal. At least he had his black dog. Either he had severe depression or he was bipolar. I think the story goes as following. In the decisive moments during the war he had extremely high performance and was probably manic. I even heard during his severe depression the doctors had to intervene so that he did not kill himself. But this might be only a good story. I think there is no exact proof for it. But I have read this story very often.
The German chancellor Otto von Bismarck also might have been bipolar. I have read a list of people who might have been mentally ill. In science this is not often made. It is a rule remote diagnosis is too speculative.
There comes another German chancellor to my mind. WIlly Brandt. Maybe you heard of him he had (severe) depression.
In the newspaper I have read nowadays it would be impossible to have a chancellor/or president who needs so much time to regenerate from stress.
So now to the question in the title. Every leading politician would be suicidal. I imagine different scenarios. For example assisted suicide would become a human right. And probably the fluctuations of leaders would be quite high. This is not meant to be a joke. It is rather a fact many leaders would probably not be that resilient enough to cope with the stress. Moreover I could imagine that N would be legalized. I think many leaders in this scenario would commit suicide or resign early. But I might be wrong. As the example with Churchhill proves they also might be quite powerful. Not sure if it would be sustainable though- Maybe they would have a support team which would intervene when he/she was suicidal. (I just recognized this is a very weird question.)
Another scenario would be the leaders would keep it as a secret. I think some elites are against assisted suicide. Especially the churches. Maybe the leaders would not fight for assisted suicide because the pro-life lobby would be too powerful. So for them personally they see suicide as a possibility but not assisted suicide for the whole country. I think this is not that seldom. Even if someone is pro-choice for themselves they don't support the right to die movement. Some might think this does not really change the result. They don't care if the suicide is peaceful or not. And they don't mind the high risk of surviving it. I am wondering why I don't read from celebrities who survived suicide attempts and live now with permanent damage.
