Everyone tells you that if you do something wrong you are a sinner and you must go to hell. But the majority of people who believe that they are in hell are those who dared to live their own way or realize that life has little meaning (as we do) and take their own lives. They say that hell is a sea of wailing and that you burn with fire. But what if you decide how much things burn or hurt, you would have a chance to make that hell your home right? They say there is eternal life. Then there is also eternal hell, which means you won't always spend it regretting it. If there is a God, they say he is good, why doesn't he allow us to be friends with the devil? Why is the demon "as they call it" supposed to be bad? You may also have emotions and need to be accompanied. Or why, if God created us, do we allow evil to exist? Because evil does not only come from Eva. It comes long before, since God started his heaven. Knowing that he could improve everything with just one finger. Could it be that God is vain? What if it's not as good as they say? What if the devil is not as bad as they say? There are so many questions and so few answers! How many existential crises make me think: Where do I come from, who created me and why should I live?

I've made my life into a living hell with my actions. I understand your existential crisis, I grapple every day with the meaning of it all now that I see what I have done and how ridiculous this reality is. I see right through everything now if that makes sense. The rules we have to live by are very silly. We are these animals yet we expect one another to be much more. We all cease "living" at some point and no one really knows what that means, yet we live in fear of it and yet we still are supposed to dedicate our lives to endless tasks and hard work to stay alive, because it is apparently a blessing. I can't think of a better definition of hell than the reality we have created for ourselves.

The bible is just a myth created by humans. There are 4300 religions in the world. That means 4299 would have to be wrong if one is right. That is absolutely absurd. If there was a god sinister enough to torture people for eternity then I would want nothing to do with such a horrible being. Hell isn't even clearly defined in the NT. The modern concept is just interpretation.

It's an incredibly infectious idea though, hell, and it must feature in a lot of religions? And reincarnation is very vaguely similar maybe

My understanding is that it's mainly Christianity and Islam with the concept of eternal torment. The OT doesn't seem to even conceive of a soul separate from the body. Reincarnation, as in Hinduism, is similar only in the concept of a soul. Heaven and Hell are infectious ideas. People like to believe something better awaits them in an afterlife. Hell is a good way to scare and control people. Fear is a big motivator.

I think if you really believe it then you might experience it. And then if you do experience it apparently the way out is to call out to Jesus. And then you get out of it. I think if you never heard of it no way would you experience it.

And for catholics there is something, I'm not sure of the name of it, just a very gloomy place not exactly hell but not nice. Limbo might be the name of it.

Purgatory
For a fee, bereaved relatives could get a deceased loved one out of Purgatory. At the right price, they could also save up for their own future sins. Indulgences...

Purgatory
Purgatory looks like a colorless, damp miserable swamp where all the trees are dead and withered and the light is dim, not night but dark. I'm not sure why some people think they should go there after death.

@Manford do you know why some Catholics think they will go there? Or what would make someone end up there after death?

Basically they think if you aren't good enough for heaven or bad enough for hell you go there. I think that they believe you can still make your way to heaven from purgatory.

Firstly, I'm an atheist. Hell is where I've been since I got sick exactly 10 months ago today. Hell is where I remain until I find a practical, enactable way to release myself from it and go to the eternal sleep that is death. See death for what it is. It's nothing, it's just the absence of life.

I think about tripping on psychadelics. Sociopaths incapable of guilt and lacking empathy always have great trips where as depressed and anxious people who have compassion tend to think about every single bad thing they perceive they have done and get crushed by demons.

This world is bullshit. Anyone who condones it is outright evil.
They are the same as if you knew of a hotel that was mostly where people get robbed, raped, and tortured and left disfigured and immobilised and yet you still recommend that hotel on trust pilot.
That is what people who bring people here are.

I was raised catholic and we never learned about hell until we read Dante's Inferno in high school literature class. Which we didn't even read for religious reasons but for literary and cultural reasons.

I believe that if there is a hell, it's not an afterlife, but it's this world that we're currently living in.

I live in a hell in my mind.

Severe depression, with no colour or zest. Bleak. Drab. I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel.

The flames from the hell in my head eventually burned my life to ashes. Burned my relationships. Burned my career. Burned my motivation.

It's a vicious cycle. Mental illness has a way of making your life very difficult, leading to shitty decisions that leave you in worse circumstances, which in turn exacerbate your symptoms.

If you don't stop the problem while it's a seed it grows into a massive, unstoppable monster that eats you alive.

That's hell. I created this hell.
