Ideally I won't fail but in case I do, I want to fail silently. My plan was to tell my parents I was going to visit my friend who lives out of the city so I have an excuse to be gone for a few days just in case I get stuck somewhere. I was also planning on having a note next to my body telling first responders that if I'm still alive when they find me, to not call home and I'll pay for the ambulance as soon as I wake up (this probably won't work, but I can't think of any other measure to prevent them from contacting my parents)

But generally what happens after a failed attempt? They revive you at the hospital and then what? Is it true you get send to a psych ward? How long can you expect to be there? Do they contact anyone etc.

You don't always go to a psych ward you will have a consult with the Psych team before a decision is made. As for contacting people they would usually contact your next of kin or at least that was the case with me. Not sure how they found out who I was but they managed to figure that out while I was unconscious.

Nothing much.
If you wake up on your own you get back to your life.
If you're found it's a psychiatric assessment, and depending on how you behave (rearing to try again and unrepentant or scared and sorry) a stint in psych ward for the initial section (3 to 5 days depending where you are). Depending on what you do the section order will be renewed for a longer - weeks or months- according to the legislation of where you're detained, or not

Waking up, dusting myself off and going home, or 2 month long holidays in the laughing house for me

Well it's different for everyone however I can say after ending up in the psych ward two times, it was probably one of the worst experiences in my life. If you're going to attempt, make sure it WORKS. Depending on how bad the doctors deem your situation, you could be in there for months. Let alone you'll be on extensive watch once you be released so if you're planning on attempting the second you get out you have to be very cautious and wary. I've also found that after having a couple failed suicide attempts, it's left me feeling even more worthless than I've ever felt. "I can't even kill myself correctly." is the mindset I've had for quite some time now. Good luck though, and if you do end up in the hospital try to talk your way out of a psych ward.

You get sectioned if they figure out you were attempting suicide.

If you're attempting an overdose, there's a decent chance you could fool the doctors into thinking it was accidental.

If you're attempting something like a hanging, that would be a lot harder to convince the doctors it was accidental.

I don't know where you're from, but here in the U.K.yes,it does vary. One failed suicide,I ended up going to the general hospital. I asked if I would be sectioned. I was told that "No,we just patch you up and send you home. You don't get sectioned for attempting suicide"
However, this Italian doctor seemed to make a huge deal over the fact I'd immac'd my head.
They questioned me extensively over why I had tried to end my life. I explained a condition I live with daily. They flat out didn't believe what I was saying. Referred me to a shrink, who essentially misinterpreted everything and placed it in a frame of eating disorder/body obsession type thing ffs. It's a physical health condition, and yes,it has led to devastating effects on my mental health.
Anyway,yeah. I got sectioned
In all my successive suicide attempts, for the exact same reason,I have never been sectioned.
The way I see it,I can't live with this condition. At least,I will be proven correct/ telling the truth during the autopsy.

I'm sorry to hear it was such a horrible experience being there. From what little I've read, psych wards sound so inhumane. Please try not to be so hard on yourself, I've only been on this forum a little while but if it's one thing I've learned it's that killing yourself is not easy...there are just so many factors.

Wow they were such assholes. Doesn't sound like they treated you fairly at all. I'm sorry that your condition's causing you so much suffering.
I hope that you can find some form of relief in your days.

Thanks for all the help everyone

For me they put me in for a month and a half in a psychward once for an attempt I done, and because I kept telling them I would do it when I got out they were gonna keep me longer but then family and friends and a worker help me get out at the 3.5 mark I was on high suicide watch for quite some time, Any house chemicals, Strings/Rope, Plastic Bags, you name it everyone kept away from me but yeah it was a long time for me it felt!

Whether you go to a psych hospital depends a lot on how you answer their questions afterwards. My first failed attempt, I was angry and kept saying I would do it again. Landed in a state hospital for 3 months. Second failed attempt, I had learned how to lie to them, expressed remorse, said I made an impulsive mistake, would never do that again. Went home the same day.
