What does being happy mean to you? What makes your life joyful?

And, if it's nothing, that's fine as I know a lot of you are struggling. But, if you could see a silver lining to life, what would that be?

And, if you could make changes to be happier, what would you change?

Happiness to me is a brief, precious moment where I feel at peace and satisfied. It might come from a genuine connection, a small victory, or just simple quietness. It's a feeling that is both desired and difficult to attain, always slightly beyond my grasp.

If I could renew the relationship with the only woman I truly loved in my life, I could feel happy and regain the meaning of life. This is how I am alive, but deader than all the dead put together.

I can relate, all I ever wanted was to have a family my own with her, and only her. I used to feel like I could overcome almost anything life throws at me, but now I just can't anymore.

For me it's absence or low level of stress, pressure, health issues, illness, anxiety, fear and pain. Sadly I have all of these and they all keep getting worse :(

I have had moments of happiness in life. They've usually been when I've been enjoying something with others- a meal, a walk in the countryside, a visit to the seaside. I guess it's been a brief monent of appreciation where the other troubles in life actually feel managable enough to leave aside for that brief period.

I think I can only be happy if I was a neet and didn't have to do any responsibilities. If I was free and able to do whatever I want, I'd be so happy

From what I read, we are social animals and good relationships seem to be the key to happiness.

That's why probably I am so unhappy because I have problems with relationships.

I would be happy if I was with my soulmate and we have a happy family, and I am not self destructing every time. Which will never happen so I'm better off with CTB.

No, I'd simply never wish to exist, I just want peace instead, I just want to sleep for all eternity, to me existence just feels like nothing but suffering, I find existing to be deeply undesirable in every way.

What do you want to do?
I'd explore media more such as games, movies, TV shows, anime, youtube videos etc. There's an almost endless amount of content out there. Right now, none of these interest me and I suspect that it's because I'm perpetually stressed by thinking, and dealing, with responsibilities and putting in effort. I feel like I'd actually be able to enjoy things if I wasn't worrying a lot about life. I'm not like other people at all as most people can deal with the stress and challenges of life whereas I can't as it overwhelms me immensely

For as much as we're different, there are ways we're similar, because I completely understand the stress of thinking about the future and responsibilities and dreading it. A lot of law school for me was skipping class but also not enjoying myself because I was so anxious - constantly - both about my performance and the dread of eventually entering the work force.

You certainly may be right that alleviating your stress could help you dive in and enjoy things more easily.

Community.

For the past couple of years, I've volunteered with my local chapter of Food Not Bombs, an all-volunteer organization that serves free vegan and vegetarian food to people. Unlike typical volunteering, it's not a registered nonprofit (in a legal sense, it doesn't even exist), which affords it a LOT more flexibility- and, to an extent, I think this has fostered a sense of community that the vast majority of traditional organizations lack. We aren't just serving food to people- we're swapping stories as we cook, we're planning for events, we're giving each other rides to work and hosting movie nights with each other. People legitimately care for one another there, and they're often just as happy to give as they are to get. I think it's similar to what attracts other people to their local churches, even though I'm not religious.

If more of the world was like this, I would not be considering CTB.

I like that but I don't think it does.

You can go bird watching for example, and that doesn't harm anyone or anything. You're just walking around with binoculars looking at nature.

It's just a quote from a song. 😅

But if I wanted to get facetious about it, technically bird watching can still cause misery if you end up being in nature where all the Lyme disease-carrying ticks are and boom now you have Lyme disease. Or maybe it could just be as simple as the bird you were looking for not showing up.
