Hello all.

I saw a post about alcoholism, which got me thinking and let me to posting this thought-provoking question. What are your addictions? (Can be anything, not limited to substance use)

I don't know if anything in my life is strong enough to be considered an addiction, but addiction runs in my family with numerous things.

Maybe it isn't strong enough to be an addiction, but I do love chocolate and I could eat loads of it.

Today on headlines I saw that there's a kid who's working for 5 liters of Coca Cola plus 50 TL a day at a coffee house, saying he drink 7,5 liters of coke a day :D

Well, cigarettes for me. I can/want to drink everyday but it's not an addiction I can stop easily for long periods when I want to.

The only thing that rises to the level of addiction is alcohol and caffeine. I used to use a lot of erotica. It makes feel even more hopeless nowadays, so I have learned to refrain again.

Former addictions: alcohol (clean since 2019), cocaine (clean since 2017), methamphetamine (clean since 2019)
The last two helped me ruin my career, tho they may have also stopped me from CTB back then. Alcohol and stimulants are probably responsible for my lasting stomach issues.

When I'm manic and on stimulants: porn/masturbation, and when I have a partner, certain kinky activities
I'm not interested anymore due to resurfaced trauma. I don't touch Adderall very much as a result.

Today: my phone/the internet. This is often a coping mechanism for the frequent dissociation that I experience.

I'm also a nightly benzo user, and take edibles most days, and use ketamine regularly (on a strict schedule to avoid too frequent use)

Alcohol. The best I ever feel, ever felt, is when I'm drinking.

Escape. I'm addicted to anything that helps me not be present. I spend most of my free time losing myself in books, video games, movies, shows, or sleeping. Anything that allows me to escape reality.

I would drink coffee instead of water if it weren't going to give me a thousand health problems. I also like to sleep and dream. I have to pay special attention to this because I can sleep for 16 hours straight and barely get out of bed for days. Last time I didn't control it and I was barely able to walk when I realized that I had to leave the house.

I guess they aren't considered addicitions because I can control them? But I think that if I pass these things a little and if I do them in a carefree way, I can enter a vicious circle without realizing it.

None. Maybe with exception of sweets and listening to music, but it's not even close to addiction (or maybe?). Definitely nothing as serious as regular addictions.

I was always strongly against anything that could lead into addiction all my life, mostly because my parents used to be addicted to cigarettes. Also considering my extremely negative feelings towards my parents that might explain why I'm so much against anything addictive.

I am addicted to benzodiazepines and YouTube. The only food I am addicted to is ice cream....Haagen Dazs, Ben & Jerry's are preferred. I also like the Snickers, Milky Way and Magnum ice cream bars.
No wonder my triglyceride levels are through the roof.

I'm addicted to more.
More of everything :: drugs // love // sex // music [ esp. vinyl ] // firearms // bodybuilding //
tattoos & botox [ not plastic surgery ; but once you've had a prince Albert, piercing can be a problem!! ]
art & design - owning it [ esp. Tretchikoff; Haring; Warhol; Tom; Hi; Nagel, Zoltan & art deco ] redbubble //
my new thing is billboard rock concert posters,
& I would stalk Michael Stipe if geographically possible ( I already do on social media )
tarot decks & ouija boards [ collectable occult paraphernalia ] // rosaries // Tibetan vajras etc //
media [ internet // movies // series // porn ] // coffee // gin & whiskey // 12 step programs // sushi // maybe s.s.org //
risky behavior [ refer to a above ]

♤ Addiction :: The compulsion to continually engage in an activity or behavior despite the negative impact on the person's ability to remain mentally and/or physically healthy and functional in the home and community [ time // obsessive behavior without considering consequences < 2 personal health of physical / mental / financial well-being >
also if it makes you deceptive ( but that vintage JPG necklace was on sale, really! // how could I perform if I was doing heroin? - u get the idea. ) Tragic. ♡
Ps:: ...this list was compiled while having lunch with my ex-sponsor ( I was fired for non-compliance :: I'm such a fuck-up ) he rattled off this list in such awful speed, I'm feeling sickly ,, he reckons even my locum vetinary / husbandry work has the payoff of being needed respected & rewarded. For all the wrong reasons... there's a reason I chose to work with 'dumb' animals vs people (lost my med. practice to addiction) I can stay away from hurting people, the way I am.
my denial is so fkn hardcore & debilitating.
I've denied myself true happiness // whatever they call fulfillment... so while it may sound 'cool' to read, it isn't.
Its a litany of melancholy & isolation. I'm a danger to myself & others.
Tx for the share, I've learnt a lot

Currently I am not addicted to anything, although I must have a genetic predisposition to addiction just like my parents, but having to see the effects of alcoholism since I was little, I have always avoided any substance that I knew were addictive. My addiction was video games for most of my life, but I became more and more demanding, too much for an industry that seems to have become stagnant.

Looking at Internet horrors, chatting with pal, smoking cigs, hating everything. Super jealous of folks with good meds to feel better on. That sounds like a better addiction...at least one feels calmer.
