I'm looking into different methods, and one that's been intriguing me is hanging. It's common, but I feel like there's so many ways to go about it. Is there a "best way" to hang oneself? Or are there many ways with varying levels of success?

People who have a preference for hanging tend towards a range of ways to hang, from partial lying down to long-drop full suspension. Everyone is different, I think you have to look into the different ways yourself to know what is ideal for you. You might find out that hanging is not the method for you, or that you don't want to ctb at all. But you have to experiment with it a little bit, first.

I've heard it takes too long. That it's not a nice way to go.

i don't really like the idea of hanging, it really messes up your body and it seems like a very stressful way to die.

It's very accessible compared to other methods, my personal opinion on this though is I don't like it since my SI kicks in the moment I try to do partial hanging.

I've looked into this alot. Like someone else said, theres various ways to it.
Apparently when people used to execute people by hanging they would place the knot infront of the neck and that would cause the neck to break. They call this an instant death but I think that just means that the neck broke and that theres no going back after that. But it probably would be quick.
Theres also the rubber band, partial method (partially suspended, still touching the ground)
Robin williams put a blanket around his neck to make it less painful apparently. Idk if he used rubber excercise bands or what but I think his was a partial hanging.
Chris cornell used rubber bands.
I wonder if people who have experience being choked out in wrestling find this easier. It probably takes less than a minute to fall unconscious if you really commit to it.
I've hung myself for a while in the past just experimenting and noticed that my tongue began feeling big and kinda dry/staticky or something and began protruding out of my mouth.

To me, this is a straightforward and readily accessible method. It's fast, free, and highly successful. I prefer full suspension and a scarf.

However, the aftermath appears unpleasant. The person who discovers you may experience both visual and emotional trauma. A sign that reads "Do not enter; call 911" should be placed on the door.

Same. I've never come close. The way I've put it: you know how they say your finger is the consistency of a carrot but your brain wont let you bite down on it hard enough to break it? That's what partial hanging feels like to me. I occasionally play around with it to see if I can get close but I've given up on it as a viable method.

You've described it perfectly well, I've made it as my backup method when SN doesn't work out for me.

I've heard that it can be a pretty excruciating way to go if done improperly and you end up crushing your windpipe.

I got hit in the throat pretty badly once. It's definitely one of those uniquely terrible sensations like hitting your funny bone, getting electrocuted, or getting the wind knocked out of you. Cartilage getting crushed is a very big "ick" thing for me from a sensory standpoint, so I wouldn't ever utilize the method personally, though I wouldn't be opposed to a method that could obstruct blood flow without crunching up the trachea, like the night-night method.

I'm guessing some people choose that method because they find it hard, or even impossible, to get their hands on other things, but anyone can get a rope.

There's a reason it's the most popular method, at least by men.

It's accessible, very reliable, peaceful and quick. Indeed some people even do it to get high, super high-risk way to get a buzz mind you.

It's one of the easily accessible methods if you can get over SI to make the final stepping off. Also you could end up brain dead if you mess up and you don't leave the best aftermath. But to get a full understanding of it and to make an educated decision for yourself better search and look at all the threads on it here.

Feels like a last resort method above anything else, I guess suicide is a last resort in general but I'd personally rather die as peacefully as I can, I would go for hanging if nothing else works though

That's a good idea, didn't even consider the aftermath lol

This along with many other replies in this thread are just not true. You don't choke to death for minutes on end with full hanging. You are mostly knocked out within seconds since the force your body applies to the neck is at least 10x the required amount to close off carotid arteries. I've looked up some videos just to see what I'm getting myself into and like 8/10 times people instantly remain motionless or struggle for a few seconds tops. It also seemed like that by using a proper rope, knots and a isolated location it makes this an almost 100% method.
