Why is it that so many people out there naively believe that one can simply OD and die on valium and other benzodiazepine type drugs? How is this myth being perpetuated? Is it because most people have seen too many movies or something of that sort? I am simply just unsure why someone has not publicly rebuked this myth. It would have surely kept people from fantasizing about going down using meds that are mostly unsuitable for that purpose.

I guess it only takes one or two reports in the media that someone has overdosed on benzos and neglectful reporting fails to mention they also had an underlying health condition or had ingested alcohol or other drugs and hey presto - a common myth is born.

You hear in media all the time about people dying from overdoses when details such as the mixing of drugs is glossed over. This makes people associate any type of overdose as deadly. Also most attempts are done on a whim and most people have some type of pills readily available.

I think it goes back to the time when barbiturates and the likes were still prescribed. And as @Muri said a lot of attemps are not planned beforehand.

Movies have spread this lie. They make suicide seem as easy as popping a couple of household pills. As long as we've got this taboo on talking about suicide methods, the truth won't get out.

Some celebrities die this way and can be pointed to as examples of success so we point at them, try it for ourselves and end up with permanent brain damage. So our lives become less joyful.

Alcohol + benzos seems to work rather reliably judging from a quick search. Given that nobody finds you.

Would you disagree?

Sure seems to for some, doesn't it. They must both depress the cns or something?

Benzos, morphines and barbiturates OD mixed with alcohol is one of the combinations that might work or what do you think? Someone with experience?

it's the most effective combination, but also the one with the highest chance of vomitting...depends on tolerance and body condition, for me overdosing is not a really safe method but rather something you could repeat for 'fun' until it's too much, some day, or sitting on a cliff before getting unconscious. I wouldn't say analgetic OD is always painless, a lot of different things can happen with drugs - no matter if pure or not

they all are depressing, barbiturates alone are enough to make you stop breathing, I'd say next on the ranking is opiates then benzos, and alcohol is an add-on for everything^^

So you tried it by yourself, several times? vomiting is the biggest problem, I have to get information about medication for that, mcp or sth, once taking a small piece of some morphin derivate made me vomit all day... does anybody know if it works with nonprescription antivomiting drugs? Actually I like thought of passing out on a high point, otherwise wouldn't it be nice to know how the free fall feels like...

Kinda yeah, but not to die though. Never had the chance of getting Barbiturates. I've read something here about your question, I think it's best to get the ones you need a prescription for since they're stronger (?)
I'll never get used to the opiate induced vomitting, mostly it's non existant but combined with other substances my body circulation can't stand

Depends on survival instinct, I once liked the idea of falling (from as high as possible for a long fall, and also for success since I took many muscle relaxants) but there are other methods I prefer now :) If none of them work out for me I'll just take a nap at the cliffs of Moher (Ireland) or something like that :D

No. Vomiting by opioids is a result of dopamin. You need a dopamin antagonist like Metoclopramid. Metoclopramid+Haloperidol is a good combination against opioid-nausea. That guaranteed nothing but is the best you can do.

If you want swallow opioids for ctb, vomiting is not your biggest problem. All opioids will paralyze your bowel function and that will stop resorbing. If not enough resorbed, you will survive. That´s happened to me.

How much metoclopramid and haloperidol is necessary? By the way I hate haloperidol...lol
