Ended up being sent to a psych ward for... quite frankly i still don't understand, but it's... it sure was an experience. Ambulance shows up with the cops, i get taken to an hospital where i spend a day on a shitty hospital bed, then im moved to the psych ward, where i spend about 3 days without clean clothes (thankfully they finally let someone bring me some). Got lucky and the other prisoners were fairly nice, but holy shit is it boring. You wait all day for a specialist to come see you, you're asked the same things over and over and over again, you're constantly watched, cameras everywhere, all you have for distractions is boring books about psycology and crayons. But the worse part is the food, holy god damn fucking hell, the food, like, what the absolute fuck. Not only is it horrible, not only is it all ''low calories'' ''no sugar added'' ''less fat'' but the portions are so small that i spent the entire week feeling like I was gonna pass out from not eating enough. When i complained to the nurses about the whole thing and told them that I felt worse than when i was full on anorexic they just told me to shut up. Managed to loose about 3-5 lbs in a single week they were feeding us so little. Let's just say i'm happy to have finally gotten out of that shithole, one more traumatising experience to add to my list. They didn't even let me have a single plushie with me there 0/10 would not recommend.

Get traumatised for life for the low low price of absolutly free ! -The Canadian mental healthcare system.

Yeah that is. I spent in a psych ward 2 months. Meds sucks. Food sucks. Nurses sucks. To leave this hell and return back to home I had to say that I feel a lot better and I love life and such, otherwise I could spend there a few months more lol. They even gave me some meds to finish the "therapy" and I didn't take any of them, but I still have it. And I was lucky enough to get into the most "friendly" section of that psych ward.

Surprisingly enough i managed to be spared the forced meds, they just gave me some ''in case of emergency take this'' to bring home.
It was hell enough to make the song Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Metallica suddenly a lot more relatable.

lol food in uk and germany is much better than in my home I mean in wards
You can order shit online, play computer, in England I had my own room with shower, we had 2 yards with sport equipment etc they treat you with respect everyone is very nice even in the highest level wards
In my home country it is a complete joke. Cockroaches eat better and they treat you like shit
I mean the difference is so huge it is impossible to imagine

I had a friend that worked in a facility for younger children. He explained that in many cases the nurses, workers, and doctors slowly learned to be apathetic because once you've become attached to them all sorts of problems arise. Now for the children, he said, when they new you've become attached and empathetic they immediately know and become attached as well and start demanding an exhaustive amount of attention. I think this happens the same way for older patients at ward but in a more subtle and complex way as adults have set up boundaries and mechinations through the reality principle. Patients may become manipulative unconsciously which becomes demanding for the nurses and doctors. So they seem apathetic, distant, curt. I'd also argue this problem of treating patients as trained animals is actually a position from the sciences since the enlightenment -- a large body of work has been dedicated to the criticism -- but on an individual experience it might be felt differently by the practitioners.

Anyway, it's a miserable experience that a troubled history and it defeating when one has to confront it.

That food looks wretched.... I don't understand why they think it would help people to be put under such conditions. In the least they could let you bring in electronics. Leaving people in complete isolation with zero stimulation and bad food is not going to benefit anybody. It's interesting they determine someone is a danger to themselves, and then proceed to torture them.

The only electronics we were allowed was our phone (no wifi, had to use my data plan, not allowed to charge it in our rooms either) and a single common computer (no headphones, if youre like me and you have a phobia of annoying people that leaves watching video or music out of it). The best part about the food, i'm vegetarian... and despite mentioning it to them several time, every single meal had some sort of shitty meat part, that i couldnt just not eat since the portions were so small i was already sick from lack of food even when eating the entire thing.

Bonus you don't have to pay for it! I was forcibly hospitalized in March (before the first shutdown, if you can imagine how in-the-gutter my mental health is) for 3 days and I'm still paying it off now.
I will admit the food was alright though, yours sounds like dog food

I'd be so mad if I had to pay for an unwanted hospitalisation, it's basically just legal kidnapping and theft and the same time.

I spent 11 weeks this year in a psychiatric hospital. I have to say it was quite good compared to others' experiences, but to be fair (1)I wasn't in the lockdown ward (2) it was a private hospital.

I've never thought about this since I live somewhere with universal healthcare. that's absolutely shocking you'd be locked up against your will and then have to pay a fortune for it on top of that.

I'm so sorry you experienced what you did. Back in Jan of this year I self admitted into a hospital psych ward for three days after a nervous breakdown and being persuaded by a hospital psychiatrist to do so. Was not allowed to have my phone and the only form of entertainment available was to walk around the hall. I'm in the US and even though I had insurance, it still cost $10k+ out of pocket. Every day I wish I could go back and tell myself not to fall prey to that doctor, be forced to take meds, and be convinced to make a huge life changing decision that would lead me down a road to wanting to CTB.

Wow you had a nice one. Mine (uk) was hell. The food was worse than prison food, I never saw a psychologist and many nasty things happened that are too painful to mention. I was wrongly put in there (thankfully my parents managed to drag me out of there after a month). We definitely couldn't order things online and the closest to a gym was a table football. I was not treated with any respect and when I was abused by other patients, the nurses just shrugged. You are very lucky to have had such a pleasant experience, I would have many less issues if I hadn't been placed in there

yup i had a similar experience and it still bothers me to this day, i feel like they purposely make it terrible so that i would act normal and they could get rid of me and start giving someone else a hard time instead. Except after i left i was only happy because i had a positive outlook, i thought that things were going to change but they just went back to the way they were. I hate feeling like my life is just a series of let downs, ive seen other people get help for having way less trouble with life then me, and it hurts me all the time. I try to be positive and grateful that i didnt receive as bad of treatment as some people have, but that doesnt make me feel better. Like even the majority of people on this site dont get it, they have supportive friends and family who'd hold their hand after a failed suicide attempt, it breaks my heart to see that cause i know that if that were me, id be all alone.

I was in a canadian psych hospital for 2 weeks in grade 11. So I was 15 I think? Before we got there I was told I'd get all kinds of help while I was there. When I actually arrived they told be they basically just keep people from offing themselves. I was on a lockdown floor so I wasnt allowed shoelaces. They mixed all kinds of crazy and people with addictions on the same floor. They didnt want you to stay in your room because "it's not being sociable" but the other patients were literally terrifying. I specifically remember one woman who would yell to shut up intermittently, at no one in particular. I was lucky enough to be allowed outside for an hour a day with my mom, but only because she's a nurse.
Oh yeah and I didnt see a single doctor until I was being discharged.
I'll never go back which is why I'll never be honest with anyone anymore. Especially a "medical professional"

They confiscated any kind of rope/string from us too, going as far as not wanting pants or hoodies with a pullstring, but for some reason they let me keep combat boots with really long laces on them lol.
