Maybe you would get reincarnated as a dolphin, swimming in the deep blue sea..Or an Eagle soaring over the rivers in Alaska, eating salmon all day.

If I was reborn as anyone else or even as an animal, I wouldn't mind reincarnation. But honestly, I think there's nothing. Or, if I'm reborn info me again, I'd do some things very differently.

Luckily, that's one fear I can cross off my list of problems. My mind is opaque to the idea of reincarnation.

But, yes, for the sake or argument, we are indeed screwed if there is a god who not only plays dice, but also chess, and we are all little wood pieces doomed to return on the chess board again and again.

Maybe you'll be reborn at better conditions.
In daoizm you can secure a place in the god's world of you're strong enough to kill yourself.
Religions have different opinions on it, but they're made by humans and majority of their views is about politics. So if reincarnation exist it's not what you can hear from religious people

This post got me to thinking.

Reincarnation has roots in Indian traditions. I don't know about Hindis, but Gautama Buddha didn't have a problem with ctb. Rebirth is based on what one clings to, and the fruits of one's actions in the most recent and in past lives/states. There could rebirth in all kinds of realms, like hells, heavens, formless, neither form nor not form, etc., and the fruits lead not only to the realm but the conditions experienced in that realm. Earth is considered one of the better realms, not a heaven but definitely not a hell. And all conditions eventually pass unless one gets completely out of the cycles of suffering and self and attains nirvana, a state of neither existing nor not existing, as Gautama said, bliss, and difficult to explain, even with direct experience. Buddhism has roots in Jainism and other Indian traditions, and are related in some ways to Hinduism, such as Bramahnism.

Abrahamic faiths are the ones who consider actions leading to a final reward or damnation. But as far as I can recall, there is nothing in the Bible that says ctb leads to punishment, that belief comes from the dogmas of the traditions but not the source. I can't speak to the Quran, I haven't studied Islam.

New Age beliefs say that one will have to come back and finish the lessons they skipped out on.

So my personal opinion is that fears about punishment for ctb are cultural. I could argue that all philosophies and religious traditions and their foundational texts are culturally influenced and culturally perpetuated by dominant, controlling power structures. Not all cultures consider ctb a sin or subject to condemnation. Some folks continue to take part in a religious tradition because of the fear that judgment and punishment might be real, so better to engage in what they're not convinced of just in case it's true, and I think that same logic can apply to fearing the consequences of ctb.

If consciousness isn't solely a condition of physical existence, I'll be sure to post here after I ctb what actually happens.

I have a wierd attachment to my own identity as well. As miserable as we can possibly be, if we simply erase the parts of ourselves we don't like, don't you effectively become another person?

I'm pretty sure reincarnation is real.
Yeah, the thought of having to live again freaks me the hell out but at the same time maybe things will work out better for us in the next life?

Reincarnation doesn't sound so bad for me

The alternative is this other theory (can't remember the name) which says
that once the universe finishes its expansion, it shrinks and returns to nothing.
And then big bang again : everything repeats the exact same way. Down to every single detail.

Which would mean I would have lived this pathetic life more than once and am condemned to repeat it.
That would mean i'm fucked. I have nightmares about this, seriously.

I wouldn't mind reincarnating, even if it means worse odds.
That's how much i hate my life.

in the case of reincarnation your reasoning and mental state about ctb would be major factors in how it would effect your rebirth. For example if one were to ctb in a fit of rage they may be more likely to be born into a hell. A lot of religions have loopholes for suicide. An example of this is if one ctb because they had no negative emotions, but also no attachment to the physical world (giving up self).

I don't think suicide is always an instant ticket to a lower rebirth. reincarnation is a complicated system that takes all factors into consideration rather than being black and white like heaven and hell.

Sometimes I wonder if our minds are just little recievers for a higher energy. That when we die we go back to the source until we're ready again.

I firmly believe we are shaped by the world and the universe to be what we are, not the other way around. Personally, I find that rather miraculous.

I'd like to think it's just going to be nothing- like how it was before we were born.

One thing I often worry about though, is what would happen if I die with a bunch of unresolved issues and thoughts... would that somehow affect my "ghost" or afterlife?
I guess that's one of the reasons why I want to ctb, because my mind definitely isn't a peaceful place and I do have a lot of unresolved issues , and my thoughts race and race all day. But I often worry about those unresolved issues will follow me somehow into the next life.
IDK. I have an anxiety disorder ..

Yup passed lives erased. Personally, if I forget my previous life and have no recognition of my past, I wouldn't even consider it as reincarnation. Literally a different person.

Honestly even if it is that's a fresh start. Old me is dead time for a new attempt. Not like I'm going to remember anyway so might as well enjoy the new freedom I've been given. If I'm reincarnated as a person though that's going to suck one way or another.

IDK what deities are out there, but if I were one I wouldn't do this. It wouldn't make any sense to punish someone for suffering in a past life.

I'd like to think reincarnation gives you something a little easier if you're overwhelmed with one life. Then maybe you go back to a harder existence when your soul is stronger, more experienced, and willing.

That's how everything else is learned. If it's too hard, go back over the easier stuff and build up your knowledge and stamina until you're ready for the Boss Battle.

hopefully if reincarnation is real, we will be put back on earth in different circumstances. I think if it is real and there is a lesson learnt in reincarnation, my lesson in this life would be ignorance and understanding struggles.

The cynic in me says probably true. My life has been one disillusionment and disappointment after the other and if there wasn't still a certain naivety in me I would long have accepted this view. Then the only illusion left would be nirvana: maybe after going through thousands of rebirths and millennia of endless suffering you reach nirvana and it is just a state of infinite boredom from which you happily go back to earthly existence.

Death is the true name of time.

No it wouldnt. That is how time works my friend. Note my profile says death is the true name of time. Every second parts of you, and this world die to make the future. If your energy couldn't be reused from second to second the universe would fizzle out. Death is more than just non existance it has another face, another side, existance. Once you understand this you see that life is by nature an unbalance as is death striving for one or the other is pointless because they make the other exist. Like a snake eating its tail both digesting and creating in an endless cycle the only way out is to stop eating.
