So I was not home when my dsl welfare happened. My housemate was at home when police came looking for a substance. I have been known to emergency crew since my last attempt in november. Other than that i've had limited interaction with them and have never received a welfare check. I was under the impression that when you receive a welfare check the purpose is to assure that you're safe and not in immediate danger. But some strange things happened during my welfare check and i'm not sure what to do as my housemate is slowly revealing more details about what happened. I haven't wanted to pry as I felt the whole thing was embarrassing and felt bad. Here are some things that happened that I don't understand

1. I got a call from the police asking if i had ordered anything I wasn't supposed to have. Initially denied this as it was random and I wasn't even aware they were at my house. But I later told them I had ordered something as they kept ringing me and asking. at this point my housemate let them in the house. (i also told them i hadn't received it.

2. My housemate denied them entry but they refused to leave. They said they had to check the house as they suspect something that could cause harm was ordered and even said that it could be used to make bombs. I felt like this is odd to use this as an additional reason because it's implying that I could have criminal intentions. This can be said for anyone that has a kitchen knife in their house?

3. They searched my house for an hour and even searched my mailbox and i gave them permission to do this. They followed my housemate everywhere and wouldn't leave him out of their site.

4. They even told my housemate to take down our door cam to see if there's any footage on it. Why?

5. Also there was 3 police officers. That seems a bit much for a welfare check?

I haven't had any good experiences with emergency services. I don't know why I would go to them if I felt unsafe and now this feels more true. Why would I tell them I have a substance that I want to use to kill myself if it seems like they're already treating me like a criminal. I have no criminal record or cautions or have been involved in anything violent in my life. i don't understand this? i found it funny that they eventually left after over an hour after one of them said this could make her worse. like yeah??

Welfare check not a criminal investigation.

They sent 4 police officers for my second welfare check...

Once they are given permission to enter the residence, its over. If they do try to return do not let them in, speak only through the door.

If you google "North Yorkshire concern for welfare check procedure" it has some useful information in there. I plan to refer to this the next time they arrive.

I imagine someone typed in 'sodium nitrate' instead of 'sodium nitrite'. The former can be used in explosives. The officers that did my welfair check following the IC arrest of Kenneth Law was going to write it down as 'nitrate' before I corrected them. (Thankfully.) I think in those rounds of checks- someone did have a whole bunch of first responders arrive.

I found and have seen here that these officers are often very poorly briefed. The ones who did mine were under the impression it was a kit. They said it was an annonymous tip off when- it was obviously because Kenneth Law had been arrested.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was an investigation happening alongside the checks though. A couple of weeks/ months later- a detective rang me wanting to know more. It was irrelevant in my case though- as I told them. Seeing as I didn't even discuss suicide with KL. It would be like trying to prosecute a hardware store for selling someone rope.

Whoa, that's interesting to know.

As for me on the other hand, while I don't have plans for suicide, I do imagine scenarios where one day the police come to my house for a welfare check because of my obsessions with suicide, violence, self harm, and violent drawings that I tend to show to my friends. I also am concerned for if Instagram will report my DMs one day as I heard that they will soon remove the encryption for them and that means that those DMs that I have with my online best friend could get read by them and then who knows what could happen.

But all in all, I really hope that nothing happens to me. Again, the only reason why the police could come to my house would be if I was really being a risk to myself or others, but if they find out I like imagining violent scenarios, especially ones involving suicide, and if they find out that I've engaged in the choking game several times, then it could be a bigger problem. I also haven't done the choking game since like February but I imagine doing it again sometimes.

What grounds do they have to search the property for something that isn't illegal to own? I'm really confused on why they searched your property without you there as well.
