From the "Would you still want to kill yourself if you won 5 million tomorrow?" thread I see a theme of the wanting to be alone, buy house somewhere away from other people etc being away from others
although I'm sure some people are the opposite they would be lonely I'm interested in why this idea of being away from others would be helpful?

I guess it's likely because they've been hurt by a bunch of people, some who were even close to them.

Personally I'd want a house alone too, but not too far out that it isn't inconvenient to buy things or have people I actually don't mind visit me.

yes i'd be interested to know if they have been hurt or they have always been introverted or some other reason.

I personally don't know how I became separated from the "norm"

another thing that is surprising to me on such a forum is the lack of paranoid thoughts - i.e "people are against me" etc people on here often seem quite methodical and implies a lack of more serious mental illnesses that one would often associate with suicide

I feel this way. I would give anything to be alone on a huge piece of land because people and being hurt and abused by people is one of main reasons I want to ctb. Some people like myself are also very anti social and not having to be around anyone, go to store or have any social interaction outside of a few family members/partner is very appealing. For extraverted people or those who enjoy being social it wouldn't be ideal but for people like me who just want to be left alone it would be amazing. I just don't enjoy social interactions period and having to be around annoying people has been the bane of my existence. This is just my personal perspective on the subject.

Interesting I wonder if extrovert people ever get suicidal?

I have no worries personally with interaction with others but they always become a nuisance or a pain no matter how I play it, so I wouldn't miss anyone.
I would rather be alone but not though off as that guy who lives in the old house on the hill alone.

I need to feel in control to feel peaceful. A house alone far away means I have the absolute control, nobody I care about can die and nothing could ever really upset me beyond any current memories or if I try to paint the house and drop my only bucket of paint on the grass.

Seems like a very clean and comfy way to live even despite the loneliness, atleast to me.

Extroverted people get suicidal for sure, I'd be willing to bet there is a rather large % of people here that would potentially be extroverts if the factors for their want to die never existed. Depression, anxiety, all kinds of mental illness or physical disabilities can force one to learn how to live with being alone because their brain convinces them that being alone is the best.

Also just wanna make sure, not saying you or other people don't know what they enjoy or are but simply I think a lot more people overall would enjoy the companies of others way more than they do currently if the factors lessened or were removed completely (myself included).

my guess is that they want to be away from the people who have hurt them, are hurting them, or will hurt them.

another theme i've seen with lots of users on here is being tired of social interactions. so, when they say they want to be alone/live alone, i'm guessing that they want to be free from the burden of being criticized or pretending that they're fine.

Yeah put like that does seem nice, if you fuck something up no-one to judge you, could be fun having a go at some painting or D.I.Y.

I suppose Rock Stars who kill themself are quite often extroverted.

personally I can't say about anyone else but every time I've tried with people I've regretted with a few exceptions.

I've often wondered if I had the money somewhere in the country, I personally would be waked out on drugs all day this would be bliss for me.

I'd like to do that but that money wouldn't last forever and plus how would you get a job in the middle of nowhere and how do you get stuff you need? I wish I could live off the grid but it's just too hard.

I always dreamed about living isolated.. Now I do.
My place looks like paradise. But I can't get used to the silence, the isolation... I need people. Not 24/7 but being this alone isn't good for my state of mind..

Home delivery, grow your own crops, make short visits to the nearest town for supplies. Amazon sells pretty much everything you'd ever need and if you had 5 million, work wouldn't be something to worry about either.

I was thinking about a house in the middle of nowhere like a forest or something so they wouldn't be able to get there but In your scenario I guess it's easier. But idk how long you plan to go on but 5 million is not much in this world

There is that programme Ben Fogle:New lives in the wild, - description "Documentary series in which Ben Fogle meets people who have given up the rat race."
if you seen this, this may or may not be a bit extreme for you, although the people often seem happy.

The feeling i'm getting is something in-between, more you buy a house fairly remote, you tell the closest neighbours if there are any that you had a high powered job but now your ill or something, and your nearest store is a couple of miles away.

Some people may love the isolation while others would find it worse, so some people miss people,
and being with people but it seems quite a few people would be quite happy away from people, totally alone I know I would enjoy this or at-least I would Love a chance to try something like this before ctb.

i guess one would consider me extroverted. i mean i do love talking to people. but it depends on my personality at the time. sometimes i like talking to people other days you can leave me alone with my hobbies and i wouldnt mind. ive noticed for some people the want for suicide is lack of friends and other things like that, either by choice or not. for me though if i do go through with it, it will be because of past traumas and current mental condition. i dont have much in the way of problems with friends.

i personally would only want the house far away so i can have more land for animals and gardening. just different interests of mine. although it probably would make me want to live more especially if i had the 5 million (have to pay for all my hobbies some how lol)

I have that idyllic location very remote.
house in the middle of a 20acre garden.
it suits me. Probably helps keep my sanity.
I'm not a social creature ( deaf ) but living here gives me the choice to join or withdraw from social situations in the nearest town (15 miles ) as I please.
That said... if I was naturally predisposed to be around people I believe isolating myself here would do more harm than good.

People often associate suicide with loneliness not the idea of wanting to be away from others.

are you totally deaf? or can you hear with a hearing aid?
I hope this isn't insulting but if I ever got the chance to try something like this I might pretend I'm deaf

I love solitude and silence. The fact to I have to deal with the madness in the world makes me want to ctb. If I can afford to live the rest of my life alone in the foresr, i would do so in a heartbeat.

do any of you feel some type of pressure to be social? like if you don't your weird or strange,a loner or something not normal because I have definitely felt like this before but I think it is becoming more accepted that people want to get away.

Many people are here not because of mental illness per se, but because their lives have collapsed to the point where they cannot sustain themselves, and to attempt to do so would be tortuous.
Considering suicide can in thess circumstances be seen as a rational alternative to unrelievavle suffering.
Also, mental illness does not mean that the individual is incapable of rational consideration. The idea of avoiding mental suffering is just as valid as that of avoiding chronic illness and decline.

I don't need five millions. I've been living like this for years and I started with nothing. For me it's about silence, peacefulness, solitude and complete freedom. I left "civilization" because I couldn't stand living among people anymore. The permanent noise, their unhealthy curiosity, the feeling of being constantly watched, the lack of real privacy etc... Now I am just thirty minutes away from a little town if I want to see people or need something, but believe me, once you've tasted silence and freedom you don't wanna go back there.

I often think of an old school friend who's mental health is probably some of the worst you can imagine but as-far as I know he has never been suicidal but I expect he is lonely.

How would you know of someone is suicidal? It's not something you talk about, and if you do, you soon realise it was a mistake. Otherwise a forum like this would not exist.

Sometimes you can see the same sadness in others eyes that you know for sure in in your own.
