So due to the fact I have dyspraxia and can't tie a knot properly, I've decided maybe cable tie is the way to go?
I have no idea how successful this would be, or even where to get a zip tie that big.
Anyone have any idea if this is worth trying, or if this would be an automatic failure?
I'm guessing the cause of death wouldn't be compression, it would be asphyxiation but it would not be easy to loose it anyway.

I'd imagine zips ties would work as a hanging but without hanging. They make relatively big zip tips at auto parts stores/amazon or you can just put a couple together to make it work. You'd have to be 100% positive that you are blocking the arteries though as I'd imagine it'll be pretty painful if not.

This came up in an earlier thread.
I cannot imagine the suffering when your SI kicks in and you claw helplessly at your neck until you finally pass out.
Hanging applies your weight in pressure and can knock you out in 10 to 20 seconds.
I doubt you can apply a zip tie at the same pressure so you will be conscious much longer.
I believe they call that hell...

Maybe we should have a bad methods megathread.

I worry that instead of occluding your carotids, you may just collapse your trachea enough to suffocate slowly, clawing at the zip ties buried in the flesh of your now-purpling neck skin.

Pass.

What about using two tightly folded pair of socks to compress your carteroid arteries, and securing them with zip ties around your neck? Could this work, you think? Looking into this method myself

This sounds like it COULD work if placed properly, otherwise, you would simply die a slow and horrible death.

You have the right idea but I think a squash ball might serve better. I have been puzzling out how to accomplish this myself and it is a challenge. The goal is to obstruct the flow of blood to tbe brain. You can do this with two fingers by applying direct pressure to the carotid artery. i have tried it and after 20 seconds you begin to feel dizzy and foggy. Continuous pressure on the carotid artery is the key element and I think a hard squash ball or a small golfball sized hard rubber ball would work. The tricky part is finding a way to apply constant pressure on the ball so that it maintains pressure on tbe artery. Zip ties or a ratchet tie down of the sort used to secure loads on trailers and car rooftops are two possible solutions

i used it days ago. about 5 of them, it didn't work, just pain for i think about 20minuts, used a towel also, to prevent cutting, pressure is not enough.

There are listings of suicide by zip ties, most are described as horrible, painful deaths (just google suicide by zip tie). It would not be a quick, painless death. If the ties are heavy and pulled tight, I doubt it would be very easy to cut them off by yourself. I can only imagine the panic and pain that would set in. Not a method I would try.

I know this is an old thread, but I can't find anything describing them as such...

Has anyone got any more info regarding how to ensure pressure it on the arteries?

For anyone looking to apply the best means of pressure with a panduit strap (zip tie), search for a panduit gun for HVAC. It will tighten them as much as they will go. I will stress however DO NOT use cheap panduit straps. Look for HVAC rated black or white straps.
