This is somewhat of a rant. The office that I work in has a christmas lunch today. I chose not to go because I worked overtime this week and had I gone they would not have paid my overtime. Tells you how fucked up this place is. So I decided to stay, no one - not one person spoke to me today. So because of my issues I chose not to speak to them - self preservation. So they are all leaving and they dump all their work on me as they leave. My punishment for not going. ANyone wonder why I want to leave this shit hole?

Ew, what the fuck? Yeah...like you said, that's fucked up and I'm sorry that happened. If you don't need to, keep doing what you're doing and don't speak to them unless your job permits you. And you could look for employment elsewhere. However, I'm not 100% certain of your situation.

Humans can be so selfish, it's a good enough a reason to ctb as is. As you said, this place is a shithole. The worst part is that they will likely never even realize it was shitty of them and it is us who will be forced to endure the treatment and die with our pain still inside of us. Did they even ask why you did not want to go to the lunch in the first place? They should at least try to understand why you did not go; after all many people are struggling financially right now, so overtime pay is really important to them - including you. So-called "office politics" are awful. Unfortunately this type of cancerous, passive-aggressive behavior is not limited to workplace environments.

Besides this: you should not be forced to attend a workplace party/social gathering in the first place, if you do not feel comfortable going. The workplace environment that I experience is horrible, and can be quite "cliquey", but even despite this nobody gets angry if somebody else does not attend an event, so I can only imagine how horrible it is for you.

If you don't attend the functions you are "black listed." Hence the reason no one spoke to me. I'm moving next month to another state and starting a new job. I don't need those people I'm just waiting for a couple more paychecks and I'm gone. I'm going to send them a text that says I Quit - nothing more

Black listed? Because you used quotation marks I am assuming that this is an informal punishment - like being ostracized?

I really, really wish that your new job involves working with other people who will treat you properly.

Yes, you are supposed to attend any event that the firm puts on if you don't the others act as if you're committing a crime. One girl didnt want to go at all but she went because she knew she had to. Since there was money involved I had somewhat of an excuse, but quite honestly I didnt want to sit there for hours on end with people I don't like and talk crap so I'm glad I didn't go - I'm glad I stood up for myself (rare for me)
