  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Posting some information here that some members might consider to be of interest:
A group of MPs in the UK called the Health and Social Care Committee are conducting an inquiry into assisted dying/assisted suicide. The Health and Social Care Committee is a cross-party group of backbench MPs that scrutinises the administration, spending and policy of the Government's Department for Health and Social Care. Find out more about the Committee's inquiry into assisted dying.

The inquiry will consider various perspectives, with a focus on the healthcare aspects of assisted dying/assisted suicide. It plans to consider:
  • the role of medical professionals
  • access to palliative care
  • what protections would be needed to safeguard against coercion and the criteria for eligibility to access assisted dying/assisted suicide services
  • what can be learnt from international experiences
The Committee wants to hear views from members of the public. If you are an individual, please let us know your views by completing this online form. The responses will not be published but extracts from individual responses may be quoted anonymously in our report. The survey will close on 20 January 2023.

Each person has to make the decision for themselves if they want to CTB. It bothers me that they could push normally happy people who may have health or financial issues that burden the tax rolls to ctb.

Well if people are able to get it then lucky them. At least to me it sounds ideal to be euthanised
and it's good to hear that more countries seem to be legalising it.

*UK MPs NOW asking for OUR input*

I envy those who get it, sadly I'm from the UK where the subject of suicide is still very stigmatised.

In case you missed this highly relevant/ notable Thread —

The chance to speak your very well articulated opinion on *legalizing euthanasia in UK*

Thank you 🙏

Thanks for this thread! This is very important for UK members. I'm glad to see people are at least talking about assisted suicide over there and I hope the UK will make progress very soon. It's deeply needed, the fact that assisted suicide remains illegal to this day is outrageous. A caring society gives it's citizens a peaceful way out and I still think you can measure how well a state treats its citizens by it's right to die laws. *sticking it*

I'm from the states, but I filled out the survey nonetheless. I don't know how much weight that would hold, but if it helps having another voice (even though I'm not an UK Citizen), then that's better.

That happens in few cases with veterans in Canada. There is an article on that.

I think that's the only way they would implement it. It costs the goverment and corporations money to lose out on tax payers and customers. Back in old athena they did punish suicide for that reason.

This survey looks flawed. The resources they propose wouldnt help imo.

1,2. Citizen assembly and referedum. Selecting a random group of the population to decide about it. Since taboo is suicide and most people are against it because it makes them look bad if they support it. Using any of these two resources seems flawed.

3. Independent research. I dont even know how they would do it. There is too much survivor bias.
