Hi folks,

Brain is mush. Can't focus and ever so kindly requesting help from smart people here.

I want to know if life insurance in the UK covers suicide and how can I tell if it does. Been insured with Aviva for a while but need to call them for the deets. Is there a good way to ask? I'm a dumbass when it comes to things like that.

Also because I'm a dumbass I realised work had a death on duty payout but I resigned and impulsively took on a contract job which fucking sucks. Got headhunted into a shit opening like a sucker. Anyways, have loved ones who rely on me financially and if my death can generate a nice lump sum I would greatly appreciate. Apologies for a half-vent I'm in a very sorry state atm. Please help. Thank you.

Generally the insurance policies have a 2 year clause on paying out in the event of a suicide for personal policies.

Work (or group) policies on the other hand should payout once you're enrolled.

I'm mere weeks away from my personal one being 2 years now.

Perfect, mine is more than 2 years ago. Thank you so much. I was in a panic tonight extremely anxious but managed to sleep for a couple of hours and feeling better. Great to see these news. Are you in UK or the states?

Aviva policies tend to have a suicide clause which states that they will pay out on the policy if you've had the policy for more than 12 months. If you have pulled out the policy more than 12 months ago, then you are safe. But Insurance companies tend to be real bastards so they will probably ask for evidence and put your family through a whole loqd of bureaucracy before they pay out.

Cheers! Lol evidence... I will leave plenty with a note. It will be real hard to do but in the ideal world I could hire a lawyer or at least find a law first before I go. My CTB date is 22-23 April so a bit tight on time. Does anyone know any law firms that can help with insurance cases, if they have used any in the past? Some pointers would be nice. Thank you kindly.

I think once there is an inquest it is very hard for the imsurance companies to not pay out, so you wouldn't need a lawyer. So there will be a payout eventually, it's just the insurance company will delay as long as possible, but if you have a history of suicidal ideation and a note that will probably be enough. I wouldn't recommend going for a lawyer as they will just rip your family off. Once the coroner's report is filed they will have to pay anyways.

I mentioned lawyer because I didn't want them to handle this shit on a low level but I can also see how a law firm can take advantage of the situation. Food for thought. Thank you!

In terms of life insurance and suicide coverage in the UK, it's important to check the specific terms and conditions of your policy with Aviva. Generally, most life insurance policies in the UK will cover suicide after a certain period of time has passed (usually two years), but it's important to check the details of your specific policy to be sure.

When you call Aviva, you can ask the customer service representative about the terms and conditions of your policy, including whether or not suicide is covered and any other relevant information. It may be helpful to write down any questions or concerns you have beforehand, so that you don't forget anything important during the call.

Regarding the death on duty payout from your previous job, it's possible that you may still be eligible for this benefit even if you resigned and took on a new contract job. Again, it's important to check the specific terms and conditions of the policy with your previous employer and any relevant insurance providers.
