in the USA, 1 suicide every 11 minutes. only 4% of attempts are successful. this is one attempt every 33 seconds. globally, there is one suicide every 40 seconds. using USA statistics (couldn't find global attempt rates), this would equate to one attempt every 0.63 seconds. and the rates are of deaths, and subsequently suicides, are usually dis-proportionally under-reported, not to mention it's straight up illegal in some countries.

i could be way off with the maths, its not a directly correlated thing, failed vs successful attempts. but i haven't seen anyone make this connection yet anywhere online. little less than 2 attempts a second.

I think the numbers must be much higher, after all I have "attempted" ctb multiple times but they never amounted to anything. Regardless, it's such a shame that this society is so delusional that they deprive people of a fundamental human right, 96% of the time. I so wish we could ctb without the fear of a failed attempt. if we take a generous look, this means the number is probably closer to 3 or 4 attempts per second. perhaps far more. the only thing i am scared about ctb is failing.

In the USA most of the successful attempts are probably firearm suicides, and probably most of the unsuccessful ones are people attempting very unreliable methods like OD's or failing a method like hanging. But anyway I hate how in this world suicide is so unnecessarily difficult, failing a ctb attempt sounds so horrible to me and I hate the fact how all those who want to be gone cannot just pass away in peace.

CTB is really difficult, because I can guarantee, your body will try to struggle all to be alive, mostly.
Some, may fail for not getting It correctly. Per example, pills methods of such kind, almost took me.
Not by complete, I survived. I wonder how much It took time to get better, yet, reach your CTB may be a bit difficult.
Apparently most of the brutes seems to work, eh?

A lot of those attempts are OD attempts. I've always maintained that, in order to successfully OD, you either have to know EXACTLY what you're doing or have no clue what you're doing. Plus, there's economics and access that have to be factored into OD-ing. Firearms (in the US) are much more accessible, with a higher success rate.

Have to remember that most people who attempt do so impulsively, with whatever they can find in the home, or use OTC meds like paracetamol or anti-histamines to OD.

Excluding those methods, the ratio of attempts to completed suicides is most likely much smaller.
