Two of my beautiful pets died today. My Chilean rose hair Tarantula and my rare Peruvian green velvet Tarantula. I'm beside myself with grief and I don't know what to do. They were both elderly and had tried to moult. The Peruvian green attempted to moult but couldn't do it fully. The Chilean rose moulted but bled out and I found her distorted body this morning. I'm so upset.

I love spiders so much (except the ceiling spider who decided my room needed babies, but that's another story), this breaks my heart. I'm sorry for you losses. I'm sorry they both happened on the same day.

Thank you. Yes it's very painful and confusing to have them both pass on the same day. I'm holding my elderly mature male Ecuadorian purple bloom tarantula as I type this. He's beautiful. He's getting me through.

Thank you so much. It means a lot to me. Here is a pic of my Ecuador purple bloom tarantulas. I'm holding him in my hand. 7768B652 8114 447A 9FDD 46E19AA11C46
He managed to kick all of his urticating bristles off of his butt, hence the bald spot.

I'm so sorry, I know how much you cherish your pets. Any words of solace would seem trite, I think, so I'll just say how sorry I am. You know you can pm me anytime. I may not be on the forums as much, but I always answer my PMs.

Sorry for your loss  it's very sad when we lose out pets but losing two at the same time is really bad luck at least they were elderly and had a good life, will you buy a couple more tarantula's.

Cheers

Thank you for your kind words. It felt horrible when I saw them both dead. I was really shocked and upset... beyond anything. When I got the Chilean rose she was already an adult. I figured she was around 18 years old when she passed. The Peruvian green velvet species only lives for 10 years so I was expecting her to pass pretty soon. The Chilean rose cakes have lived until the age of 30.
rose could* stupid spellcheck.
So sorry for you loss. It's always sad when a pet passes.
Thank you. Yes it's really sad. I have young juvenile tarantulas to look after. I've got one elderly Tarantula left. I've got a seven year old Brazilian red and white striped Tarantula and a 3 year old Dwarf tarantula from Trinidad as well as a sub adult Argentinian species who is 5 years old. In 6 weeks I've lost 3 elderly Tarantulas and an elderly praying mantis.

If you decide to buy a couple more why not consider buying a male and female Chilean rose cakes and breed them.

Lol. I tried a breeding project once with Legalas and Sakura ( deceased Chilean roses) I had 3 Chilean roses at one point. A long time ago I tried to breed . The pairing went beautifully. Both Spiders were ready to mate. The egg sack was pulled. I incubated it. But the eggs weren't viable. Just 11 spiderlings made it.

@BlackPoppet, I'm so sorry. You gave them a wonderful life.

A few months ago I tried to find a half-remembered poem on line, but I couldn't find it in English - just Russian and Spanish. I used my rusty Russian, antique Spanish and faint recollection of the original to resuscitate it. I hope it speaks to you and your companions.

Tarantula
Reed Whittemore (1959)

Everyone thinks I'm venomous. I'm not.
Look up and read the authorities, especially
One Alexander Petrunkevitch, of Yale, now retired,
Who said of me (and I quote): my "bite is dangerous
Only
To insects and small mammals such as mice."
I trust you notice that "only"; it's important,
As you who are neither insects nor mice can appreciate.
I have to live, the same as you,
and how would you like it if your nature were judged
on the basis of your relationship with, say, the chicken?
Moreover,
Petrunkevitch has observed − and I can vouch for his veracity −
That I am myopic, lonely and withdrawn. At birth
I dig a burrow for myself, just for me,
And I live in it all my life except when I go out
In search of food or love (in my case the latter
Is not very satisfying: I "wander around after dark in search of females",
And sometimes I get lost and wander into someone's house and die.
How does that sound?)
Moreover,
I have to cope with the hunter wasp of the genus Pepsis,
and despite my unfounded reputation as a murderer,
I can't. Petrunkevitch says so.
Read him. He knows his subject. He's helped me.
Which brings me to my thesis here. You have
This image of me that is at once slanderous
And discouraging, and all because you, who should know better,
find me ugly. All right, I'm ugly. But does that mean
You have to persecute me the way you do?
Read William Blake.
Read William Wordsworth.
Read Williams in general, I'd say.
Once there was a book by William Tarántula,
A work of some importance in my world on the subject of beauty −
Beauty which is only superficial, beauty that a bit of
Charles (note the "Charles") of the Ritz can apply or remove
At will, beauty that − but I digress.
What I'm getting at is this:
You who (I have read) are endowed with great intellect
Should try to understand me, little me.
My name is William
Too.

See how beautiful Tarantulas can be. The spider in the second picture down is a lot more fast and venomous than most of the others in the photos. So is the fourth spider down.
