EDIT: I REALIZED THE WHOLE POST WAS CAUSED BY HEAT THAT DROVE ME KIND OF MAD. Keeping it up so people can see what climate change can do to you even if you're a pretty privileged person
The temperatures have been reaching 50c and I'm in a real desolate place. If I just stay outside long enough exposing myself to the sun I could just end it all. I've promised myself to stick around until my dog is gone and my brother is 18 but I'm weak and the only arguments that can help me now are why it would be unreliable. But I know it would kill me if SI doesn't set in. Please help

Sounds like a lot more painful then like every other method on this site.

It would be hellishly uncomfortable and unless you already have a very frail health you probably won't die.

Why is it that you want to die and posting in the recovery section? Also it's kinda sweet that you want to be there for your brother.

Yeah it won't work. You'll cave in from the pain and you'll get help. It's not worth trying, you'll feel so bad and regret trying

I'm sorry you're suffering.

I understand you--one of my main reasons for wanting to CTB is climate change. I can barely survive the Summers here now and every Summer the urge to CTB gets stronger and stronger.

I actually joined SaSu as a result of suffering through a heat wave in '21 that killed a couple of thousand people and over half a million livestock. I had heat exhaustion--one level down from heat stroke--and ended up in the ER. It was one of the most miserable experiences of my life, which is saying something. I've broken bones, had shingles twice, have had seizures. And heat exhaustion was comparable in misery, if not worse, than those.

Oh I can REALLY relate to you. I'm real sorry you had to go through that as well. Ironically I understand now that my urges from earlier were motivated by the extreme heat. Those kinds of temperatures literally drive humans mad.
Please stay safe in the meantime.

I've seen many people consider really painful CTB methods, but I've never heard of anyone considering heatstroke. You're literally cooking your body from the inside. Even if it the only CTB method you've got right now I wouldn't recommend it

We had a week-long heatwave in June that had me obsessing over my tourniquet, thinking of doing it. But I powered through. 20C/70F is where it starts to get uncomfortable for me. That week, it was hitting 35C/95F. Horrific. I have no A/C, only two small fans. I have a shit heat tolerance just as a baseline, growing up in the PNW in a cool climate. But I'm on a few medications that all fuck up my heat tolerance anymore. I'm in perimenopause which gives me hot flashes...

But now it's only a few weeks now until the hot weather should be behind us.

…yeah, after a bit of sleep I realized the mere thought was caused by me spending too much time in extreme heat.
I'm not planning to leave until shit hits the fan completely where I am🥲

I would literally recommend the freezing death method over this, and that one is horrible as well (and I don't actually recommend it).

One of the worst days of my life was having to carry a 30lb pack up and down mountains for 15 miles in extreme heat. Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Your blood pressure goes nuts, everything is weak, pounding headache and nausea.

Took off three days last week because I found out the AC in my apartment isn't powerful enough to actually cool the whole thing until the portable AC I ordered arrived. Was sick and couldn't even concentrate on my work computer.

I can't imagine living without AC.

Oof, you'd hate it where I am (but again so do I now!)- on summers we used to reach heights of 36c regularly. Now it's about 40c and overall triple farenheit degree height. My heat tolerance is also greatly lowered by meds so I get you on that front. At least I have AC which really made me a bit of a shut in.
hot flashes sound tough as heck. If nothing else changes, I hope you get to live in a place that's located high up and with good insulation. Those really are important aspects for the bit of future we have left, I think. That's what my partner and I were planning to do.

Holy shit. That literally sounds horrifying. Extreme heat is something that comes out of horror stories, for real.

A/C just isn't standard around here. It's a big reason why ~600 people in my province died during the heat dome. Many of their houses were 50C/125F indoors.

The provincial government has added some rules or shit as a result of that disaster and now newly built homes, apartments, etc. need to have A/C or central air. There's a government program to help get cheap A/C units to people, or even free if you're poor enough.

Oh, that's horrible.600 in your province alone...? :(
I remember the first time I heard some countries just don't have air conditioning as the standard. 13 year old me was shocked that british people only have heating.
I'm glad that things (seem to) have changed in your province though.

I feel like if you tried to do it on purpose it would probably be horrible... but people who get out in the heat and lose track of time and lack proper hydration and rest/cool breaks can very easily work themselves into a heatstroke and be critical before they know it... so it kind of can work... but probably not if you are trying to do it.

I feel so bad and selfish right now. It's rarely 30c during the summer here and it feels unbearable. The fact you put up with 40c regularly is commendable

There isn't really a need to feel bad. Everyone has their own limits. Some people in here still go on runs in 30+ degree temperatures somehow
Also, luckily it only started reaching 40c last year. I mean it's going to keep getting worse but i haven't been dealing with it my whole life. Maybe in the far south of the country 40 degrees is more common.
The best thing you can do is to take care of your local environment, it'll take care of you back and the temperature is lower- when degrees are high and i can't stay inside i go to a community garden or a library and hang out a while. If I live for a while more I would like to live in an ecological coommunity and do the clothes and furniture fixing for everyone.

It's going to be "interesting" to see what happens when shittons of places in the world that are not socially and/or ecologically set up for this kind of temperature magnitude are just permanently in these ranges. People are going to be different. We have a decent idea of how shit things will be environmentally but i don't often see talk of what the human world is going to look like when everyone's cooking alive half the year.
