Does anyone know if one could get away with checking SN in your bag when you board a flight?

I wonder just how sophisticated the scanning machines are with the airlines, and if there would be legal implications of being caught with SN, now that it's become so tightly controlled. I wish there were lawyers on this forum.

What country are you from? Here in U.S. , Sodium Nitrite is readily available to anyone. It is even sold on Amazon. In the U.S., if it is in your checked luggage, I don't believe it would be a problem as long as you are traveling domestically. I would not attempt to have it in my carry on bag. That being said, if you are traveling to a country that prohibits SN then you would potentially run into an issue with customs.

For the US, the TSA's website has a list of what's allowed and what's not. It's not just a matter of scanning, if it's a checked bag, there's a possibility someone will open it and go through it.

Well, SN is not on that list, so I guess I might have a few questions to answer but that would be it.
