Caliguila comes to mind

Pretty much any movie about incest or genital mutilation

Edit: I am all for freedom of expression and speech but if there is one thing that I would delete for the human experience once and for all is incest. Just the existence of this concept makes me want to jump from an airplane and I have the worst fear of heights

I see a lot of people mention Come and See and Grave of the Fireflies as being pretty traumatizing. Haven't watched them myself yet, kind of afraid to go into that dark head space.

Well things that do that it's usually because I hated them and I try to avoid them at all cost however my favourite films are all emotionally devastating and I love them. They don't offend me they understand me. Big difference.

1. The Road
2. The Impossible

But what gave me by far the most visceral response was a specific scene from the series Euphoria.
A father physically overpowers his son and holds him down. The son then immediately starts screaming and self-harming by bashing his head on the floor.
It hit way too close to home for me. I had to pause and started sobbing uncontrollably.

My favourite film is abre los ojos. Breaks my heart because it has one. Melancholia is also an absolute powerhouse as well as Lynchs Mulholland drive and Twin peaks:fire walk with me. Some people would find them depressing, I find them cathartic. What I find depressing is crap like the Chucky series my girlfriends been watching. An absolute disgrace. Imagine any other serious subject being handled in such a trivial manner

I love the new Chucky series but then again I have been a fan of the series since the original Child's Play. You just have to try and let others enjoy what they enjoy. By the way I am about to watch Mulholland Drive, funny enough. I also have the original Twin Peaks box set.

Tbf I haven't invested in it from the start or anything, I've just caught bits and pieces and when that's the case things can seem really awful. Context and all that. I even did it with a show I liked, just watched a random episode in about the third season just for the sake of it and without knowing what had gone before it was shit

Yeah, I hear you. To be fair television series can be a hit or miss because there are so many episodes. You can have some good ones, some mediocre and some just plain shit. The Chucky series is far from perfect but for fans of the character it was a blast. The best shows I ever watched were a lot more deep and interesting like Westworld, The Boys and Boardwalk Empire. But yeah, you do have to invest a fair bit of time and concentration into them, hence the reason I don't watch many of them. I mean, I have the time but I lack concentration.

Midsommar is an interesting choice. I can definitely see how it could be a traumatising movie, but for me personally the movie was like a cool psychedelic trip. By the end I wanted to join that cult. 😅

When I was about 7 years old, i saw the horror movie "Superstition", which revolves around a family that gets killled by an evil witch, one by one. It was so terrifying that it made me afraid of slightly open doors, and bathing outdoors.

Taxidermia (Being devoured by cats, gluttony, self mutilation and all around WTF), Ratcatcher (Kids, rape, bullies, suicide), Tyrannosaur (Regret, anger, hate, abuse, fake happiness), Happiness (pedo, loneliness, desperation), House of Sand and Fog (Losing a love one, out of place, and suicide), Manchester by the sea (Misery, unable to forgive oneself. Not disturbing but good.), Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (Not that dark but worth a watch, cancer and death), Cannibal Holocaust (Actual animal mutilation), and L.I.E. (pedo, depression, lost, broken family.) That is a good start. I have been told to watch A Serbian Film and Antichrist but haven't got around to those yet.

Well besides straight up horror movies, which can scare me even when they're terrible, I have felt traumatized by A Serbian Film. Maybe that says how much of a wimp I am.

Sausage Party might as well have traumatized me. After it was over I was utterly speechless at how it was just Foodfight with an R rating and a higher animation quality. By the way, that's another potentially scarring film. Might not scare a kid but it would definitely make any adult who sees it lose any faith they had left remaining in the existence of the human soul.

The recent live action Winnie the Pooh movie also didn't sit right with me. I rarely get mad at movies but this one made me irrationally upset at the ending because of how it was solved so neatly. I guess that's to be expected from a kid's movie but the exact way it was done still bothers me.

To be honest - Irreversible. Even though Requiem for a dream had some nasty and uncomfortable scenes it cannot match the naturalistic brutality of Irreversible by Gaspar Noe... The film itself isn't that interesting, but I would rate the opening scene with the fire extinguisher as one of the most sickly things I have ever seen.

I love Requiem for a Dream! Though now that I think about it, I probably love it BECAUSE it made me feel uncomfortable after awhile. I wouldn't say traumatizing, but it definitely hits you in the gut.

The one that stands out for me is A Clockwork Orange

I will edit back later as I can never think on the spot. But one that come to mind that recently bit for me was
Bullhead (2011)
I actually believe intelligent women appreciate it more but it's a must see for any man who's ever questioned their masculinity or having trouble.
Beautiful film. And since I just mentioned beautiful
Brings to mind
Biutiful (2010) with Javier Bardem (also about death, pain, suffering, guilt,. Hardship) the sea inside (2004) about fighting for euthanasia (also javier bardem, man I can think of loads of must sees movies is all there is in this shit hellhole world

Couldn't remember the name but it was a Hong Kong drama about firefighting. Back then I had a fear of elevators and there was a scene where three firemen were trapped and dangling from a lift-shaft-turned-fiery-death-pit.
