I guess I just wanted to vent about a failed attempt I had. I don't want to spread FUD about this method because clearly it is quite effective, accessible and simple, at least compared to many others. Unfortunately, because of what I experienced in my failed attempt, I fear that I might even have a bit of PTSD associated to hanging in general, which means that my SI would be through the roof in any future attempt.

So, this was my experience. I nailed the "falling unconscious" part because I didn't even realize it. I just felt my arms tingling and then go numb just as I was starting to feel really relaxed. So far so good. It did not even take 5 seconds. But what followed was esentially the worst sleep paralysis nightmare I had ever had. I felt like my body was spinning and like I was "drowning" or sinking into some void. I tried to escape this void, but my body would just hurt and didn't move, sleep paralysis style. This lasted for a few seconds until I started to wake up and heard myself shreaking in the most guttural, "animalistic" way imaginable. (Now I understand why not having anyone around is so important for this method). Of course, I then realized what was going on yet my heart was still beating like crazy.

Now everytime I see a rope or think about the feeling of getting strangled I start to feel sick. It was one of the worst experiences. The only silver lining is that I did not get any "exploding head" feeling or asphyxia. I just passed out.

Yeah, it was really scary but at least it was not painful at first and I did not get injured.

As for my setup:
- Materials: Climbing nylon rope, TRX tool (hard to describe, but meant for exercise) that allows you to attach ropes and elastics to closed doors or windows. In my case I have really robust window "doors".
- Protection: A thin bandana over the neck, mouth guard
- I was kneeling but I initially (as in, while I was still conscious) supported my torso with my arms against the wall.
- I hyperventilated a bit at first but I don't know if it helped. In theory it helps reduce air hunger and might even aid reduce blood flow to the brain
- I tightened the noose a little bit and then just "dived into it" so the sudden pressure would knock me out quickly
- I used my hands to make sure the noose was getting tighter as opposed to just pulling on my neck. I even pulled downward on the other end of the slip knot as I went down to my knees.
- The noose was almost on top of my adam's apple, but a bit below it.

Like I mentioned, I knew it was working because as soon as the noose got tight I felt buzzed and like my whole body was tingling and going numb (especially my arms). The last I remember is me struggling to reach with my arms.

As for how to do it right. I am not sure. I suppose getting closer to full suspension may help prevent involuntary movements from restoring blood flow, but it all depends.

Good luck and hope you find the peace you seek.

thank you so much for your help ! 🫂 i don't have access to a rope right now unfortunately but i do have a long thin scarf which has worked well for me in the past, i tested it by trying to hang it from my doorknob with the noose to the other side of the door and i did start to feel dizzy, but i didn't go unconscious since i got off it fast :') i'll try putting more pressure and kneeling so it blocks the carotids more effectively !! thank youu

You are welcome! I assume a scarf might work if it is thin since you need as most pressure as you can get.

Another tip that might be helpful since it was taught to me when learning chokes in in martial arts classes is that tensing your neck protects you from falling unconscious due to carotid pressure. Therefore I also tried to relax my neck muscles and to relax myself mentally befores starting. Unfortunately, ropes tend to cause throat pain and irritation so you will automatically tense your neck a bit in response to the discomfort.

I'm sorry you have to suffer like that, it sounds so dreadful, I see so much cruelty in how the option to die painlessly with no more suffering is denied with people having to resort to such horrific ways instead that can go wrong, I wish you the best, I hope you find the relief you search for.
