I think it's a 50/50 chance between your conscience living on or oblivion.

The concept of an afterlife goes against the grain of everything we know, so I wouldn't count on it. The fact that we had lived at all was extraordinarily lucky (or unlucky.)

Life is temporary, death is permanent

I know there are other threads on the after life out there, but I often see the idea of nothingness coming after death. Anybody think there's something different? How do you feel about the thought of ctb'ing and what might come after?

To be honest, I think there is something after. But I highly understand why someone would think there is nothingness. As there is no evidence one way or the other, it's up to each and everyone of us to make our own call. For me, I believe because I not only like the idea of it, but I would be miserable to think this is it. Like with all the stuff I put up with, with all the hate I dealt with, and how many times I tried to earn happiness but failed. I have to think there has to be more.

I don't believe in the being in hell forever because there is no point in that. And I'm even iffy there is even a hell. Since the person is already dead. What is the point in them going to hell at all? Even more with them going there forever? NOTE I do think there is something that will happen if someone does terrible on Earth. There is too many religions pointing towards this.
As far as heaven, I have a feeling it's similar to what the show American Dad showed in some episode a while back. I mean not in a joking vibe, but more in an isekai way. Is there a way you can keep in touch with and maybe visit those who you love now? I hope. But, I have a feeling the normal heaven most think about is a hell for many.
Like I couldn't imagine being someone like Einstein, and having to deal with randoms all day every second forever. Let alone if you had to spend your afterlife with someone you hate.

At the end of the day we can only hope the afterlife will be great, and we can only hope we really changed the world for the better.

My only belief if that everyone is entitled to have their own belief and if people are allowed to assert their belief in an afterlife it's only fair that us non- believers are also allowed to share what we feel- and if the after life believers faith is so strong it will hardly be shaken by anyone stating that they personally don't agree- but maybe I'm just envious of the optimism & perhaps it would lessen my fear of death & the transition from life into nothingness. Could be more reassuring if I had a faith of some kind I guess- might make it easier .

One disappointing pointless existence was enough for me. Life has made me into a bitter person and nothingness would undo all that and I'll finally not be 'me' anymore. It's just unimaginable to me to think of being stuck as myself forever and even if an afterlife could change how I am, it probably wouldn't change the tainted memories, mixed emotions and relentless boredom I've had with myself and my family in this life.

I was raised catholic and later became spiritual, I always wanted to believe in the afterlife. Now I'm an atheist. I don't believe there is anything after this which sucks but is also comforting. It sucks because we only get one shot at life. Comforting because when I'm dead I will no longer be a part of it. I think there's beauty in death. The survival instinct makes it hard to fathom non existence but once it happens you'll have nothing to worry about. Death is the great equalizer, every living being dies and so will I.

I was raised Catholic, but I don't believe in hell. I don't believe that a generous, loving God, the God I believe exists, would send his children to a place like hell. I would like to believe there's room for forgiveness even for those who have done terrible things. I don't know, I just find it hard to feel like anyone deserves to go to a place like that for eternity.

I always thought the same way, @trynacbt . I never accepted to congregate in most known religions. They can do a good job for many sick people, but they often do more harm than good. I think that, still, the disappointment with the god of the religion in which I was raised was a factor in the beginning of my teenage imbalance. I could not resign myself that such a good being could be so exclusionary and perverse with certain people, which he defines as "evil." Since the religion I frequented was based in the literalness of the Bible, I wondered how cruel it was that a person living for 25 years, for example, could be condemned to suffer for eternity for his mistakes. How a loving God, who loves us more than our mothers (still according to the Christian holy book), will condemn a child to eternal suffering, based on the little time on earth he had to "prove he was worthy of paradise." Such a god is more like a sadistic 'demon'. I prefer to believe that if there is a force above us, that it is not evil. Imagine you live the hell that is life on earth and still be condemned to live a worse hell after death. For God's sake! In this case, I prefer that there is nothing but this existence.

The only thing better than non-existence would be to become a disembodied spirit on the Astral plane, embraced by my soulmate and soul family (not my biological family) who treat me with love and respect... they'd tell me "You know what Astral, we would've ctb if we were in your shoes, too." We'd spend the rest of eternity exploring an infinite universe teeming with diverse lifeforms.

I think non-existence is more realistic, though.

I have had multiple experiences which indicate that, yes indeed, there is definitely an afterlife. There's nothing to worry about.

Please don't worry about going to hell... aren't we all already experiencing being in it, in this reality with all this pain and suffering?

Yes, IMO there's definitely an afterlife.
You'll be fine and well looked after.
You won't go to hell.
If there are important lessons to be learned from the life just lived then you may need to evaluate and process them, because your soul's never ending quest is to learn in one way or another....

I'll be honest. I have NO idea what will happen once I die. But I *do* know is that if I continue to waste my life away, I'll achieve absolutely fucking nothing. So I'd rather just plunge to my own death and journey the unknown. If parallel timelines exist where my future wasn't doomed, I hope I'd wake up to that timeline once I die in this one. Or, allow me the opportunity to undo the mistakes I've made in this timeline. Whatever the case, I have nothing to lose.

My spiritual teacher (Barry Long) once said "everybody gets a prize !"
So the after-life will be whatever you most want it to be.....
However, that may not last for eternity, since it might still be a "dream", and not your soul's final destination....
But it might last longer than an earth-lifetime, so you'll still get a fairly good deal.....
So for now, you can pretend it will last forever ( then deal with the next stage when it comes )
Or if you *really* want enlightenment ASAP, then your after-life might be more abstract, but still heavenly.....

note : these are just impressions based on what I've heard / picked up, I'm not currently enlightened enough to be able to state these as facts......

Order from chaos. This messed up painful life we live leads into something of unspeakable love and beauty. Probably nothing our puny little organic brains could possibly conceive of even on the craziest acid trip. There is just too much mystery in this reality for me to believe it ends with this life.

If there was an afterlife, I'd tell the bastard who made all this exactly what I think of him. And I'd tell him that it is not the starving babies of religious overbreeders that make me loathe the world he made, but the extreme bad taste he had making a joke of my life.
