So I've been a part of the Reddit sanctioned suicide forum for the good part of a year, and it was a tremendous source of support for me when I was depressed. When my depression lifted, I stopped going on there though because I was getting better. However, whenever I felt down, that subreddit was always a source of comfort and support.

Ofcourse it was banned and I never really thought about it again, however, I did feel a void whenever I felt down. I heard about the woman who killed herself recently which was featured on Buzzfeed news. I read a lot of negative things about this forum. I didn't know this forum even existed until I saw that article and so out of curiosity, I came on here to see how it is and if it would be a safe space for me again.

I posted about my academic pressures and how suicidal it makes me feel. Contrary to what the lady who lost her daughter has been saying about this site, my post was met with a lot of support and even people who encouraged me to keep going. I really needed to hear that and my thoughts immediately starting going into problem solving mode rather than thoughts of ending it all, the latter of which I've been feeling all week.

So, in my opinion, it's not all dark and gloomy here, which is how it's been depicted thus far. There is another bright side to this forum, which provides support and encouragement to LIVE. So thank you guys for the support you provide in whatever form it takes. I hope you too can keep going.

I completely agree. To hear that there are other people that feel like I do itself is comforting. I'm not here to encourage anyone to ctb. If there's anyone who's trying to sort life out I will gladly offer my support because it's one of the few things that brings me joy. This is a good place to analyze your life and find out if you really want to ctb and I'd think most people decide not to. (I may be wrong but we'll never know how many of the people who say they're leaving are successful.) also, it will prevent people from choosing bad methods that'll leave them brain damaged, etc. that's just how I see it.
So far I have received encouragement to try to hang on longer and no one has encouraged me to ctb.

people come on here looking for advice on how to die (certain methods)..........and they get that advice! so it's a little bit how the media says , let's not kid ourselves......you can fully understand how family members , who've lost loved ones who were registered on here, are gonna be a bit pissed!

I absolutely get that and understand how people probably go all the way due to the methods available on here. I'm not ignorant to that fact and sympathize with the family.

But there is another positive side to this place that also needs to be highlighted and I'm just
highlighting that from my experience.

Perhaps the point the critics of this forum miss is that you have to plow through your own darkness and gloominess to have any chance of reaching the bright side....although that's not guaranteed.

No matter what this site is the family will be pissed and I can't blame them. Still, it's our choice to do research and reach out to like minded individuals. Family will never understand how aspects of this site can be beneficial in any way.

I agree. It's definitely not guaranteed and can go either way. But being alone with your thoughts/not reaching out or connecting with like-minded individuals who understand your situation better than most people in your life, can be very isolating and even more dangerous. I was there and it was a terrible place to be in.

On the one hand you can find posts and threads which, like this one, are reasoned and considerate (so far) but then you can be buried under a deluge of immature, needlessly provocative, irrelevant, thoughtless and offensive drivel. The latter obviously will give ammunition and embarrassing quotes to anybody who chooses to misrepresent the Forum.

Another member of the Streisand effect. Welcome.

I too was a member of the old reddit sanctioned suicide. I knew that once they closed down that sanctioned suicide reddit that it would just force people to give rise to even more liberal suicide forums. And I was right, this site soon came online soon after. That is the problem with censoring. If they shut down this site then I can see a new sanctioned suicide opening on the darknet where encouraging is common place. It's best to let people say what they want, as long as they are not inciting violence against peoples will. Meaning censorship should be a last ditch option generally speaking. Fight bad speech with good speech, not censorship.

I actually came to this forum to connect with like-minded people. I find it almost impossible to find people who are actually alright to discuss suicidal intentions. What I have been confronted with in other forums are all people who just try to convince you that life is all sunshine and rainbows and suicide is such a sin, same as even the mere contemplation of it.

I just watched a half-hour long radio interview with the parents of the woman who recently took her life. In my view, it seems that people don't seem to understand that users on here are dealing with their own issues and are trying to help others suffer less, not get off on deaths. It seems that from their point of view, we're all sick, twisted individuals who prey on vulnerable people by helping them kill themselves. I don't see this as being the case at all.

With that being said, I can't imagine what the family is going through and it makes sense for them to lash out and try to find meaning in their daughter's death. I just wish both sides could understand eachother better.

The media will always be biased and take the worse from things they can't understand or are a taboo subject in society.

I'm glad this site is here as I can connect with like minded people without being judged everyone has their own choice in life. It does give people the option to search for methods but I don't see it any different from someone googling a cooking recipe. It's just one thing is accepted while the other is not .

I've heard stories in the media which may be untrue based on responses here where people are video streaming their deaths with encouragement from others. That sounds so awful and makes me shudder inside. This site is not like that. Most of us don't want to die! We are suffering physically, mentally or both. Once you've tried all available to you and realise there's no more help coming as you just worsen then there is nowhere to go for comfort; no where! No one wants to be here but it's the only place when you are so alone and desperate where you can look into taking some control over your suffering and demise

Exactly, and it's not like family and friends will understand these feelings. Talking about it is so taboo and I personally feel like a 'Debbie downer' if I even mention my feelings and depression to people I know. This is the only place where I can express how I feel without feeling like I'm burdening people. It's actually liberating.

Obviously but only the minority of us realise that. Majority lap it up!

Technically water is not wet :)

That reminds me off the video that went viral quite a while back when a group of young boys were arguing over water being wet.
One of them was going bazerk but in a funny way.
I must say even the discussion amused me.
You's probably would of seen it yourselves.
Hilarious.
I think one of them said water is not wet until you touch it and so on.

So it's everything else that's wet, not the water. I get that. Like cat fur sticking to everything but the cat.

Or just make it public ? Why the secrecy? :notsure:
I'm hesitant to post it publicly because I don't want people to easily access it and post nasty things in the comments. I'm not saying that this would necessarily happen, but it could. The video is publicly available, a person just needs to do a little digging.
