So much for preventionism... this site does a lot more than socalled hotlines or whatever... definitely more harm reduction for sure!
I completely agree. I feel we've all come here at the ends of our rope in various ways, for various reasons. It seems that in coming to openly discuss the taboo subject of ctb we've unlocked being able to openly discuss just about anything. Since we're all feeling the pain of living we have so much compassion for others that feel the same, be it for very different reasons.
In the typical preventative model we're not able to speak freely. I def feel this pushes people to violent or insufficient methods that bring more suffering.
Before I came here I had a lot of issues around impulsive ctb urges. I was scared of them and overwhelmed by them when they came up. This community has been helpful in reducing that for me. My recovery involves understanding I need to plan more before I can act.
This open discussion helps people understand how difficult it is to get all the pieces of a plan together. We can discuss our fears and concerns. I feel for many this helps us not immediately kill ourselves. Real harm reduction.
Reminds me of this quote:
