I wonder how many people have registered here and consequently CTB.
It's interesting thinking about the idea of this forum being a graveyard.
I hope that by their profiles still being here, it makes them being remembered.

Something that I feel is perhaps overlooked sometimes ...

Not everyone here that has apparently CTB'ed is necessarily dead .. some of them may be so severely brain-damaged from a failed attempt that they are no longer capable of participating on the site.

For a few months now, even only while I was lurking... this forum has kept me distracted from offing myself, or doing "something rash".

Can anyone explain to me the significance of the usernames with a line through them? Are these (as I assume) accounts that are no longer with us (whatever the circumstance) ?

Yes. They either closed their accounts, modmins closed their accounts for them (usu. due to a successful ctb attempt), or they were outright banned.

Yes, it's a strange feeling, especially when reading posts from a year or two ago and seeing names crossed out.

I really admire how kind and respectful everyone is to each other here. Part of me thinks that if the rest of the world was like this, a lot of us wouldn't be on this site.

Modern human relations are so inhuman, these days. It truly is a much different world than the one I think I was born into.

Perhaps it was always this way, under the surface. Some of my experiences warrant this conclusion.

HOW TRUE! Life is not infinite for the individual, but life itself keeps going on and on.

I don't necessarily think that everyone wishes to be remembered, but yes death is simply an inevitable part of life. As humans we only exist just to die and eventually be forgotten about, eventually it's likely that we won't even exist in the memories of the living as everyone that knows us will eventually die too. Our lives are all so insignificant and temporary after all, we will all lose everything someday. Nothing ever lasts and it could never do. I find this thought to be comforting. At least one day no matter what I will be free from everything but I do envy those who have managed to ctb. They are lucky as they prevented themselves from experiencing a future filled with unnecessary suffering.

Yup on the positive side, realizing about how insignificant/meaningless it is can be freeing to

cause eventually everything wont matter

but in the moment its still not easy to break free

For the most part, yes, you're correct. I also love how people here are supportive of each other, even in dark moments, and quite tolerant towards different people with different situations, reasons, philosophies...This community is quite diverse and welcoming...

The vast majority of people here do not end up dying by suicide. Most are pretty miserable though. If there was no SI, it would be a different story.

While I don't know that the wording is exclusive to the site, I agree that there is something unique about a site cultivated around people who wish or intend to die. I'm online here too infrequently for me to believe that anyone on the forum will really notice my passing, assuming I finally make the move to and don't get lucky with some sort of accidental demise. Still, this is a side of myself which no one else in my life knows of. It is oddly intimate, sharing the most reclusive emotions and thoughts with others. And having the same done in turn. I like to think that is worth something.

To me, it's even scarier that this forum is a purgatory for those who live unwillingly. It's been that way in my case before, but there's countless souls that lurk through these forums, and do so in this very moment, probably doing so till they're taken out of their own suffering, from out of their control. Usually it's someone they have to care for - related philosophical question: is someone else being a reason for you to live better/more meaningful than having none?
