When there is scarcity, that will inevitably generate animosity as people need to fight over the last cookie. Our economic system purposefully creates waste and scarcity.

Two examples: Kimberley Diamond Mines- when they get a larger than usual haul of diamonds after a mining operation, they burn off the excess diamonds into coal, to keep them valuable. If there was an abundance of diamonds, they wouldn't be worth as much $. So it makes economic sense to waste them in this way.

Some time ago, the Canadian military was due to buy new tanks after 10 years. They decided not to buy new tanks from the manufacturer when they were supposed to, because they said their old tanks were so well made, they still worked well and therefore Canada did not need to buy new ones yet. That manufacturer lost tens of millions of dollars because the tanks they made were too good!

Finding faults with solutions? Maybe things can never be perfect, as life is always evolving, in flux, and new challenges arise spontaneously- but we can certainly do so much better than this. We have to, otherwise we will destroy ourselves and the planet.
