Is it me but do you feel there is just too much censorship in general regarding online mental health support communities.

In my experience when I have online mental health support communities I experienced moderators constantly policing what I or other people write.

●On Reddit I used to belong to an eating disorders sub called Eating Disorders Annouymus and on the sub I mentioned that I now use an Amazon locker to get my diet pills delivered to me instead of my house because lack of privacy in my house.

The moderator quickly removed ky posts citing one of the rules banning harmful advice meanwhile on the same sub people posted threads on foods they have been calorie counting, binge eating etc which are all harmful behaviours people with eating disorders are not allowed to do.

● I used to belong to a online depression community called Depression community called Dealing with Depression and the moderator was just a bully who allowed her members to bully me just because I said during lockdown that I wished in lockdown I died from Covid19. She censored a lot of topics too.
https://sanctioned-suicide.net/thre...one-sees-her-as-a-hero-since-she-died.165696/

I rescently made an account with ED support Forum and I have to wait for my account to be approved by moderators. I read moderator approval takes several days or even longer. If it doesn't get approved in a week I am deleting my account.

How are people supposed to talk freely about their struggles if everything they say keeps getting censored

I completely agree.
On all the major social media, a person can report others if there is any suspect of suicidal mindset. The comments are removed and the person is contacted for prevention.
I always refrain from writing that I'm depressed or suicidal on Reddit, because of the high chances that it won't result in a friendly conversation with the other users

Yeah, there's so much censorship in online communities, especially reddit that I don't really bother with them anymore. I had a reddit post get deleted recently because I confessed to having suicidal thoughts in a subreddit dedicated to mental health struggles with no reason why. The subreddit suicidewatch is full of people overdosing on pills that are more likely to give people brain or liver damage than kill them, but since you aren't allowed to tell people that they won't work people just keep doing it. One of the reasons I like SaSu so much is that moderators don't censor discussion to ridiculous and harmful degrees, to the point where they put people in danger rather than help.

I got banned permanently from reddit because I said suicide should be an option for "some" people.

Reddit in particular is heavily moderated regarding what topics can be discussed.

You just have to respect the community rules and politics, unfortunately.

https://mypancake.cafe/ is a very liberal ED community - much better than anything on Reddit.

And of course any discussion on mental illness, depression, and suicide is going to be Big Brothered on Reddit so that the sub doesn't get banned.

I find SaSu less than ideal for a number of reasons, but it still beats any other mental health "support" forum online because you can speak honestly on here. Prevention of copycat behaviour is probably a big reason for censorship, which seems fair enough (there should be places where you can disclose whatever you want to, but I also get that some people want to go places where they won't be triggered). However, I sometimes get the feeling that even in spaces supposedly designated for mental health discussion, there's an unwillingness to acknowledge the uglier symptoms of mental illness. People only want positive affirmations and stories of people getting better, you're a refugee nobody wants anything to do with if you don't improve.

@ScaredOfMachines What is the point in that sub ? Hardly anyone replies to threads and no one really has anything helpful to say.

Its's full of depressed teenagers ( NOT ALl) who need serious help with their problems but this is what happens when parents don't parent, schools don't do much to get help young people in need in the end social media ends up raising the child.
I got banned from suicide watch on reddit for suggesting people try ketamine infusions first. They are ridiculous
@divinemistress36 This is same the reddit where it's members bully, doxx and hound people and moderators do nothing. It's well known online bullying is a major cause of sucide in the youth.

Did Reddit moderators ban all the users who falsely accused a missing suicidal student for doing the Boston Marathon bombing and harassing the poor man's family?

Reddit don't even care about mental health and shouldn't be lecturing other people on what to say

I have experienced this too in other online mental health support communities. This is why I ended up back at Sanctioned Suicide. Those self righteous women who builled me on that depression support community were the ones who drove me back to sanctioned-suicide.net.

When I see online tributes of people calling the owner of that community site "an amazing person" who helped people I get so upset because she was the woman who allowed her followers to bully me relentlessly on her site just because I said I wished I died from covid19. It's tragic she died but she was not a nice person.

@dust-in-the-wind Meanwhile the pedophiles and predators still keep their reddit accounts.

Reddit hired a pedophile enabler to be an admin of a UK politics sub community and whenever people brought up the truth about the person reddit censored people from speaking out.

@My_name_is_Luka I have heard people on reddit complain that the report a suicidal person function is actaully being abused to terrorise people and harasss others just because the person had a different opinion on a subject.
