Hi, I have SIBO and had several episodes of gastroperisis, thats a fucked up diagnosis right there, most def cbt material. Im so sorry, digestive diseases are horrendous especially if you live in a developed country where food and eating out is abundant it's intolerable...

Been suffering from a mystery digestive illness for almost 8 years. Chronic illness can really affect your relationships with people, I couldn't really drink or eat out with everyone. It's a real bummer. I hope they have misdiagnosed you.

I have severe Gastroparesis and in UK there is next to little help at all for the horrible and devastating condition. I only have 10% function of my stomach/insides and survive on 2 foods and even that is agony, even water is to get down. I also have many other physical illnesses and life is very very hard, then sadness and grief on top of that.............life/existence can be unbareable. I am sad you have Gastro-P as its one the most understated and ignored conditions out there, in my opinion unless you happen to live in a country where there are specialist Doctors who actually dedicate their entire working life to this type of thing. Here if you ever need to talk.

Please excuse a potentially stupid question, but why don't analgesics work?

Causes intense constipation which is especially dangerous with this.

Also its not exactly the kind of pain you are familiar with, its more like incredibly bad discomfort and bloating.

So gastroparesis is literally a paralysed stomach, so food stays in your stomach too long and causes severe pain.

It hurts so much, you'd need narcotics and such, but one of their bad side effects is slowing the stomach down more. Which leads to more food being left in the stomach, which leads to more pain, which leads to needing more painkillers...

It's kind of a hell spiral.

I just got rediagnosed with it myself, yesterday. Devastating.

I see. Please excuse another potentially stupid question, but are there any alternative forms of treatment?

There are some drugs, like Meto. Sometimes surgery. Sometimes feeding tubes. The last time I had it, it just randomly went away. But I spent about 8 months on TPN, which is nutrition through IV first.

There's not real cure, though.

I have to admit that I can't imagine what it must be like. It must be frustrating that the treatment methods are so lacking. What about neurostimulators? Over here, they are only used experimentally so far, but the results are very promising.

Actually, yes. I don't know how common it is, but I've heard of people getting abdominal pacemakers implanted for this. One of the causes is damage to the vagus nerve, and they found it helpful to stimulate. But I think that's one of the last resort options.

Well, if it's pushing you to the verge of suicide, I'd say that it's time for last-resort options.

True, true. I completely agree. Some doctors don't see it that way, though. Like, mine just told me he didn't want to try medication because of side effects, so I should just watch my diet and screw the pain. Ridiculous. I'm going over his head.

I'm not anti-doctor at all, but I've been severely let down. Asshat is the kindest word I can come up with for this guy.

sucks ass when you could've had a good future ahead of you and you want to keep living and striving for a better life, but the pain took that all away from you and is essentially forcing you to end it early or suffer

Don't you have a public healthcare system in Australia? Or am I misinformed?
Its not like it covers everything something like that you might get a $500 rebate or something. It covers shit like GP appointments and emergency surgeries.

That's too bad. I have to admit that $40,000 is much money and not easy to obtain. I guess a loan is out of the question?

Hey there! I'm going to start dry fasting in a few days. I'm fighting another disease and traditional medicine has failed me (in fact it made my condition much worse), so I have no options left. If you wanna join me, let me know. it's a pretty tought method. It's gonna be kill yourself or heal yourself kinda thing.
Dry fasting can restart your digestion system

NO. Medicare covers everything in a public hospital or outpatient.
