I just read the news of a family of 5 persons who committed suicide in Montreaux in Switzerland yesterday.
3 adults, husband, wife and wife's sister, all in their 40s and the couple's children, an 8-year-old girl and a 15-year-old brother, the reason is still not very clear ...
they threw themselves together from the seventh floor of this building and they are all dead except the 15-year-old boy, whose fall was cushioned by a palm tree, who seems to be still alive in a serious condition.
This news is a real tragedy and it is very sad but for the umpteenth time I have the confirmation that jumping is a method that works ... they are all dead (I think the boy would also have died if it hadn't been for the palm tree) how many possibilities were there? among other things we are talking about a seventh floor ... they all died on impact.

Very interesting, were the kids forced to jump? Were the adults insane in some way, and they took the kids with them? I don't see these two youngins doing it by their own volition.

hmm, there was a case in my country where a guy threw a kid from like 6th floor. I doubt the kids have the mental capability to jump from the 7th floor. More likely thrown. If the guy was strong he could've thrown women as well. If the boy survives to tell the story, we'll know.

In the country I live in, 4 brothers committed suicide with cyanide. The reason is financial. Financially motivated suicides make me feel like shit. Whatever the cause, this is a tragedy beyond anyone's imagination.

Fr. I can imagine once your feet leave the ground you regret it all the way down. Thankfully it's just a few seconds, though who knows in what way the mind might process those few seconds.

I think I'd beg it to be painless. I can never jump or shoot myself. My SI is very strong.

For the kids I would see this as murder, they wouldn't have chosen it for themselves. If the motivation was financial the kids could have gone into foster care. If the adults choose that's one thing, but they should have let the kids live- someone would have let them into their family I'm pretty sure.

Interesting and yet given the choice of a long protected painful death in illness compared to a quick painful death by jumping, !! Im the one with protracted disease and my SI to me is irrelevant.

Perhaps, but taking one's own life should be a personal choice. Children that young don't have a pre-frontal cortex developed enough to make an informed decision regarding the matter.

They've reported that "police came to carry out arrest over home-schooling" of one of the children.

In my country there was a case of 4 members of a family including 2 children, who committed suicide with SN inside a hotel room. The reasons were financial I think. They were found all laying in bed. The way it was described in the news, I found it to be quite tragic.

Oh:(
what made me think is that in these family suicides there are no survivors ... in the sense that something goes wrong and someone survives (leaving aside the boy who probably jumped badly on the palm and probably is dead on the hospital by now).
Usually here we have a lot of paranoia about surving or remain a vegetable... and even rightly I would say, then when I read this news I really envy these people who die "easily"

Has to count as a murder-suicide. Hurts to know that 'parents' like that exist and yet I have no one to care for despite being qualified.

I read about another family in a newspaper. The father killed his children and his wife by strangulation and then he killed himself by hanging.

I think after going through this trauma I'd want to be dead in his position.

What incredibly bad luck. A fucking palm tree? I'd break out in a fit of laughter at the first opportunity. It would break my mind. It wouldn't feel real for a long time.

Same. It is quite frustrating to be honest with all the misinformations and non empathy for suicidal people that goes on in the society.

I've read it termed "extended suicide" when a parent kills their children right before or simultaneously with themselves. It's still murder, but different than say a murder spree before suicide.

I can only imagine the psychological pressure and/or physical force used to get the two children to jump. I hope the 15 year old recovers.

:( Damn...I imagine the destructive force and power it took to strangle 3 loved ones with their own hands

Exactly...think of waking up paralyzed or losing the use of the legs and being the only survivor of your family,God it's awful...
