I struggle with the word sanctioned. I just find this word weird. I mean its ambiguity. The word sanctioned can mean something like approved. And at the same time it can mean something is disapproved. Like you would get a punishment (a sanction) for it.

If someone can explain my why this is so I would be pleased. I think the term sanctioned when it is used in a certain political or judicial context rather means under punishment. Or a country get sanctions for misbehavior.

But on the other hand in another (political) context people say something like: "We cannot sanction such a behavior". It is often used. With the meaning of approvement.

I don't really think that it's weird, as sanctioned can mean to approve something and this website is a place that accepts suicide as an option and sees it as a rational solution to end suffering.
