I was just told that the monster from my childhood shot himself.

This is the same alcoholic/drug addict/con artist who used to beat my mom nearly to death for several years, and threatened to kill me and my sister. The same man who was recently covering for his criminal son (who was most recently arrested for being an sex offender, involving a minor), and the same man who was recently appearing in the comments on the facebook page of my former therapist.

He never atoned for his past, or ever made an attempt to do so with us, not even so much as a half-assed apology.
But then, sometimes, the trash takes itself out. And while this doesn't undo the past, I will sleep easy tonight, in knowing that there was some justice in him killing himself instead of us, and that I lived long enough to learn of it.

I'd say it's a pretty decent day for you. I'm sure, and understand, how you may have wanted him to go out in another way. IDK, I mean I would have. Some kind of really miserable way. All in all, I'd say a good day for you, your sister, your mom, anyone else he wronged, and this planet.

Possibly, but I doubt it, since he recently had an opportunity to acknowledge his past, and denied it. My guess was that his past was exposed to his new wife. But either way...

This was interesting read for me. My view of the world is such people never have remorse for their actions and never feel the need to ctb. So yes interesting.
Although it was interesting for me this is not to deflect from your own emotions - sending you my love.

Thank you. And my experience, exactly, which is why it came as a surprise to me that he even did it. That was the last thing I expected to hear.

That's scary that he was planning to repeat the same cycle of suffering with a new wife and possibly new kids.

Of course nothing changes what has already happened, and what happened to you guys sound absolutely terrible. Still, even though this person never so much as apologised or acknowledged his horrific wrongdoings- I'm happy to hear that you feel like there is some atonement for what happened to you and your loved ones, and you can sleep easy knowing that such awful things will never be done by this person again.

I think it is a strength to be able to admit you have no sympathy for this monster's tragic end. It is common to hear sheeple say that we should never speak ill of the dead. I say, fuck them and their sheeple ideas, that they send around to the herd like memos of what's currently an acceptable way to speak or think. They would say he was probably treated badly and was damaged as a child and is as much a victim as a perpetrator, but you can't keep using the past as an excuse - at some point you have to become responsible for your actions.

Agreed. I eventually made the decision to forgive my primary abuser, partly because I'm so damn old now that it felt a bit ridiculous to still blame Mommy and Daddy for everything that's wrong with me.

To be clear: I'm not suggesting anyone else has to forgive people who have been cruel to them. Some things are unforgiveable anyway. This is just where I find myself.
