  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Hello,

I think Emil Cioran's philosophy can help advance humanity intellectually on the issue of suicide.

Also, I invite you to share your thoughts on this philosopher, and especially on what he says in this video:

As some of you know, Cioran is a disciple of Schopenhauer.

Good video, thanks. "What saved me is the idea of suicide" is a really good comment. Sometimes when I'm feeling really down, I think of the fact that I can end it all. I can end all the suffering by suiciding. That gives me energy. Suicide is like a panic button that you can press anytime.

I once read a news article about the world's happiest country. I can't remember the country, it wasn't Nepal but somewhere near it maybe, in Asia. The reporter asked the people "How are you so happy?" and they replied "We think of death once a day". The world's happiest country is happy, because they always remember that they can die at any moment. Maybe today a boulder will roll down the mountainside and crush your home and family and you, maybe a wild animal will attack you, maybe you'll get a heart attack.

I totally agree. The possibility of suicide is what makes life bearable. It is a way out that allows us to be there by choice and not by constraint.

That is why painless suicide must be a right, so that this "off button" is always accessible, even without the slightest effort.

To think that one can die at any moment is not a "negative" thought, on the contrary, it invites us to appreciate our life, and reassures us by reminding us that everything is transient, including suffering.

I didn't get a chance to watch the video but the title and the other comments made me think of this quote I found the other day:

'The thought of suicide is a great consolation: by means of it one gets through many a dark night.' - Friedrich Nietzsche

I never really understood this myself until lately. You would think thinking about suicide would be a "bad" thing but I think it can sometimes be healthy or normal.
