Some Days ago I stumbled on the YouTuber Sabine Hossenfelder. I knew she is a German scientist physicist and mathematician living in the US. I watched a philosophical Show with her and she seemed to be extremely savvy and very profound. She has over a million subscribers. So I started to watch some videos. There Was a Video called "Defund academia". I watched it her insights in science were stunning. Her criticism seemed to be very strong and bold. I think many Trust her because she tells about her own experiences in the field.
In certain aspects she gave the Trump administration and Musk Credit for wanting to defund academia. I listened to it but eventually I could not make a Call because I don't have These insights in academia. I watched some reply videos and read some comments. I still don't have a strong opinion on it.
I watched some more videos. I saw she had an ad read of Ground News in it. The YouTubers I watch and actually like don't make ad reads because they say it corrupts them. Glenn Greenwald even makes ad reads for buying gold. WTF. He also interviewed Dugin and called him an independent thinker, asking him whether Russia is an authoritarian country. XD
Back to Sabine. In the video she complimented Elon Musk. And said there are not many people that care about the future of humankind but He is one of them. And in this moment I knew she was full of Shit.
I wonder whether she trusts Ground News. Seemingly yes. The both side approach is not working (anymore) the US. This is not intellectual. The Republicans radicalized and became more and more extreme and anti-democratic. Newt Gingrinch played a significant role. And media figures like Rush Limbaugh helped. By drifting far right the Republicans polarized the system. They poisoned the media landscape. They feared if the US becomes more diverse the people would not vote Republican anymore. This is why they used tactics like voter suppression and gerry mandering more and more and systematically. Yes also the DNC does gerry mandering but to a lesser extent. There is scientifical research on that. The Republicans got more and more discourse hegemony in the age of social media when Traditional media struggled. The Republicans abandoned the concept of free and fair elections and Trump proved that when He did not want to leave office after the loss 2020. It would be a Big mistake wanting to make compromises with such a party because they are not an honest actor anymore. Especially on the topic democracy.
With gaining discourse hegemony they achieved to Call CNN, MSNBC and other broadcasting stations far-left despite the fact they symbolize leftwing centrist corporate views on economical standpoints. The US is drifting more and more into the right-wing direction.
Compared to Europe the US is economically extremely libertarian. Accepting that free health care is not a human right sounds insane to Europeans. And While this is the case the Media elites still achieved to manufacture consent. On the Corporate left they agreed that Status quo was the right thing. While the Republicans want to destroy the administrative state.
While Trump prepares to give tax cuts to his billionaire buddies many Americans on the right blame immigrants, the homeless, people on medicare and disability for their problems. The rich get richer massively, While the poorest die like dogs in the street.
While there are massive conflicts of interest in the administration and they actually build a deep state DOGE is exactly that. They pretend they were the ones to increase efficiency and saving the country. The Trump administration might be the most corrupt since a very very long time in US History and maybe ever. Billionaires can buy influence easily While many low income and middle class Americans kick people on the bottom of society. (and pretending ridiculously trans people were the root of all evil). While they get robbed blind by billionaires they complain about fairytales welfare queens. It is such a joke. Just compare how much wealth the billionaires acquired in the last decades While the middle, lower middle class and the people on the bottom got even poorer. There are many statistics on that. But oh no the culture war is more important for them. (and the allegedly evil trans people)
The both sides approach makes people blind following US politics. I think many Europeans cannot fathom how Americans get treated by corporations and neglect of basic health care, social Security. But instead of realizing that they scroll through their social media where narratives are set by right-wing thinktanks and many outlets are owned by billionaires. And the billionaires give the narrative blame the people on the bottom. And it works. It is shameless and cynical.
One last thing to Sabine. She released a video on reporting of climate catastrophes. She presented her views on the reporting of the wildfires in the US. Actually she said the right thing. Climate scientists would call her take bullshit and actually she with her reputation should not give her opinion on climate science. But she still did. And called many occurences in the field of climate science bullshit. Well if she admits she does not have insights in it she should not share her opinion on this as the authority figure she is. Many people trust her takes. At least on politics I can say she is full of bullshit. Maybe from time to time I will watch some videos. But with critical distance certainly.
