The "Gold Standard" tastes disgusting!

I saw a few threads on this but still couldn't imagine it was this type of bad. I expected it to taste bad like some kind of bitter drink or cough med. I imagined something like an alcoholic Buckley's mixed with bitter alcohol plus licorice but its worse. I have a stuffy nose and I still taste it indirectly which probably says its even worse than the current lingering aftertaste I have. The teaspoon I had tasted like a combination of what I'd think an old sweaty armpit would taste like mixed with toxic old school fresh liquid deodorant, a mildly poisonous plant and wood bark. It leaves a dry-mouth, chalky tongue and cheek sensation for at least an hour after. I suppose that part doesn't matter since I will be knocked out quickly in the best of circumstances.


Don't get me wrong, I will grin and bare it when the time comes which will hopefully be in the next few months. At the same time I'm wondering if it went bad. I refrigerated it for some time before I realized that was against recommendations. I'm also pretty sure, but can't 100% confirm its past expiry. Does anyone know of or have any experience with using, or from hearsay or by tasting this product before and after refrigeration? Is there anyone that can vouch its likely still ok?

Great description man. I felt like I was reading Dostoevsky I've never tasted N but if it's really that bad, drinking 200ml can be overwhelming for some. Still, if I knew it was the last pain I'd go through, I would have drank it. I guess...

I've had it for a few years. I never saw the labels and don't know when it was manufactured. Usually these kinds of things have an expiry date of 2-3 years past the manufacture date. However I know meds can often last 5-10 years after the manufacturer's ex-date, since they are only calculating dates by regulatory standards. Companies often ship expired meds overseas to be used in poorer countries that don't have regulatory agencies.

To be clear I meant its likely past the manufacturer's ex-date. But not necesasarily past the 5-10 years that most meds can last. I have no idea what the half life of this stuff is.

Nope. A teaspoon translates to about 6ml and there's 100ml to a bottle so in the grand scheme of things maybe that's so minuscule that it wouldn't bother most people. I've heard of people drinking it recreationally. Maybe they do something more like a shot. I have no idea. I may try 2 teaspoons later too see if it has an affect if I can't find any answers. Then maybe that will give me an idea if this stuff is up to par.

Nope. Its possible that my body makeup causes me to have a higher tolerance for most sedative drugs. I've been known to have at least 4-5 injections to achieve basic numbing for certain routine procedures. Most alcoholic beverages even after 4-5 don't make me drunk or slow either. It tends to have a more stimulant affect on me.

Maybe you read the conversion wrong? I did that too using Duck, at first.

I heard it for the first time. Tea is drunk very often in my country, although teacups are small because they like to drink it hot. Quick drink and refill. Tea spoons are also small. There are too many people who drink tea instead of water :) I prefer coffee.

The one time I tried weed it had a very unorthodox affect. I have no desire to ever recreate that response.

I don't know the exact concentration of medicine but I will take your word for it.

To me vodka tastes very close to water. It's not a go to drink for me although I often enjoy flavored martinis.

The other product I've never heard of or tasted so I dont have a reference for comparison. The most bitter tea I remember was pure strong Black Cohosh tea. I can't compare the actual taste of cohosh directly to it as the last time I drank cohosh was too long ago. But I have an entrenched memory of how bitter and nasty cohosh was such that I wouldn't ever drink that tea again. The taste of the gold standard is definitely worse moreso because it coats the entire mouth and lingers vs. having a quick bitter hit on the tongue that passes.

While increasing the hypnotic dose of pentobarbital 2 times, it did not affect the incidence of apnea. It gives an idea of why barbiturate doses are specific.

I'm curious about the concentration of your N :) Assuming 6.3 grams, you drank 5 ml = 315 mg of N. That's over 3 times the recommended 100mg sleep dose, but it didn't affect you at all. Your tolerance is very high.

There is a known case on the net of someone surviving 1 bottle, so now 1 bottle is rarely recommended, 2 is. Maybe that person also had a similar tolerance and is the base case for the latest recommendation.


Everyone is not the same hence the reason anesthesiologists get paid the big bucks. There are many prescription sleep medications I don't respond to. I've had sleep issues for extended periods throughout my life. I also have the ability to stay awake for up to 2 days before my body conks out. Thats probably not normal either but I can get lots of things done.

I've drunk a lot, I've fought a lot, almost like an Irishman or a Scotsman. I've endured so much life pain... God, I don't know why you keep me alive. I'm so sure I can survive 200ml of N that I've planned on drowning. God, there is nothing worse than being strong. I survived 100g of diazepam, 2 ethyl comas, several fights. The last one was against 6 matriarchs who wanted to rob me. None knocked me out, I know that one will need surgery on his cheekbone, I'm so sure... I've survived so much that I don't know N can kill me.... Once I went into ice water for 15 minutes.... then I got out and I recovered... damn it, kill me.

A different kind, one used by euthanasia groups is for oral consumption and more concentrated form so the amount needed is less, I believe 30-100ml. It also doesn't taste bad, I believe. Pentobarbitol from D is for intravenous use, veterinary, and is specifically made to taste horrible, to minimize the chance of accidental ingestion, I guess.

Haven't verified the source of these articles but there are many that have shortened sleep needs. It would also follow that these people's brain chemistry are different and thus respond differently to meds.

I will probably try a double dose of the product at some point in the near future since I have not received any answers regarding refrigeration. I can't imagine cold would have a huge affect. It wasn't frozen or anything like that. I'll try to update it here if I remember.

It's bad but there are plenty of similar or much worse tasting things that I have easily tolerated. Ketamine running down the back of the throat after snorting. That E that I was given for my birthday when I was younger and stupidly tried to chew on instead of swallow. Even kale or garlic juice
