Countries were supposed to submit their climate plans ahead of the big climate summit to show how they planned to prevent the literal end of the world. Only 64 countries did, and those plans are woefully inadequate. The largest polluters in the world didn't even bother to submit anything. In other words, this confirms what everyone has known all along: the world is fucked and no one gives a shit anyway.

There's no point to living anymore in a world that will end within our lifetimes. The only reward for staying alive is to watch things get even worse. To watch people get hungrier, thirstier, sicker, ever more desperate. Tens or hundreds of millions of climate refugees will be left to die of disease or starvation because no one wants to take them in - and you might even be one of them. Everyone will go to war, trying to take for themselves what little is left - and you might even be drafted. And in the end, it will all have been for nothing. It's already over. It's like Estragon said: Nothing to be done.

The worst part is it likely won't "end" this century. People have been saying since the industrial revolution that the planet was on the brink of total ecological collapse, and here we still are.
No, what will happen in the near-term is swaths of the planet - the hottest places, those at sea level - will go, and as is known already the poorest and most vulnerable will go with them. Different parts of the planet, not currently ideal, will become so. Populations/nations/the elite that can afford to relocate will, and without social revolt to oust those responsible for the catastrophe, the cycle will just begin anew; the masses being exploited to keep the machine running.

I can't speak to other countries besides my own, which happens to be the United States right now. But people are likely to die from poverty-related reasons before climate issues get us. Our government is still shut down, which they are obviously in no hurry to re-open. Our tax-payer funded food benefits are not going out this November- but of course we had the money for our "president" to tear down part of the white house to build his golden ballroom and send 40 billion dollars to Argentina to influence an election there so our billionaires can make a few more billion. They are trying to blame one side of our government, when all that side wants to do is extend healthcare subsidies, but they are being accused of continuing the shutdown, when all the other side has to do is just agree to let the poorest of us have access to semi-afforadable healthcare. Meanwhile, essential federal workers are going to work and not getting paid, and the ones that are furloughed are at home with no paycheck. Of course, it is the law that they should receive back-pay when the government re-opens, but if you know anything about our president, he was never one to repay his debts when he was in private business. He was known for hiring contractors and not paying them once they were finished with the jobs they were hired for. He just makes up numbers and everything out of his mouth is a lie anyway. So many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck anyway and who knows how long this shutdown will end. They are not even trying to negotiate. The money is there. There is a contingency fund for set up for situations just like this, but the Republicans will not touch it. Ofc, there are more complicated things going on, I just don't feel like writing a dissertation at the moment. I got paid my disability money this month, fortunately. They haven't gone after Social Security yet. But I'm not getting my SNAP/food benefits this month. Luckily I have no kids and no one else to support and I don't eat much. I can't imagine having to support and feed a family that depends on that aid.

I'm speaking about America here, but there have been far-right movements starting to take root all over the world. And our collapse is having a ripple effect.

There's just so much dumbfuckery they are forcing upon us intentionally. Billionaires do not need to exist. They don't live in reality. They can't even conceive of the way the average person goes about daily life.

The billionaires are not in the least worried about climate change, they are expecting a large portion of the population to die out. They wanted Greenland and that area so badly, not just for the trade routes, they can live in their bunkers (hmmm I wonder what is under that new ballroom that once was the East Wing of the white house, for example), and keep moving North until the ice caps melt and they can access the land under them.

Ofc, they are as delusional as they are rich and think they have it all figured out. I mean, the latest, Elon and his "robot army" is a prime example. Unfortunately, the rest of us are going to greatly suffer for it.

I do share your concern. However, I think it's kind of ironic when we point the finger at countries who pollute the most. Why? Because they are presumably manufacturing things for us! Will we stop buying those things? Will we tolerate power cuts, water and food rations? Will we tolerate any significant changes to our lifestyles? It feels unlikely. How will you work yourself to earn money if the buildings you are in have no electricity? I think it's easy to point the finger when it's likely us that continues to create the demand for all these things that do the harm.

But yeah, I dread to think how bad it's going to get. I'm just so relieved I haven't brought children here to witness/ endure and contribute to it.

this isn't meant to sound argumentative, if it comes off that way. But bill gates recently walked back a lot of his climate talk. Saying it will have consequences but certainly not lead to our demise. He's not the only one walking it back on this. Ultimately though, I think this is on people more than politicians.

It's ok. The A.I. apocalypse and elimination of the middle class by the billionaire elites (that own half of the world's wealth) will distract everyone from even noticing the climate downfall.

The world is NOT going to end in ANY of our lifetimes due to climate change. Full stop. It's going to be around and quite liveable for humans, animals, and plants for billions and billions of years, henceforth. There is no "literal" end to this world, unless crazy people set off all nukes, or an asteroid, as large as the planet, strikes it. And even then there will be survivors to start anew. Geez.

Yeah it sucks but I am not too worried about it. The details of the climate apocalypse are more contentious than I was originally led to believe so I don't think anything major is going to happen within the next decade or so. After that...well, hopefully I'll be dead. And I don't feel a sense of kinship or community with the world at large. I hate that I've become that way but it's the result of years of abuse and observation of evil...so it's probably justified. FTW.

Perhaps another COVID type plague will finish us off before any of this. I don't care about humans only the poor animals forests and oceans. Human civilization is too evil to bother saving IMHO.

Megacities flooded by surging seas. Mountains bare of the glaciers that once perched on their craggy peaks. Ice sheets crumbling into the ocean. The seafloor carpeted in ghostly skeletons of dead coral reefs.

This isn't the plot of a disaster movie; it is a realistic picture of the world we are heading toward as global warming ticks upward and the global appetite to tackle the climate crisis wanes, scientists are warning.

A series of reports over the past month have sketched a plausible portrait of our future, and the picture is grim.

If every country was to become truly climate friendly, standards of living would be so low that the world might as well end. Unfortunately, the state of being alive requires resources and destruction.

I'm almost 60 and the world has ended so many times I've lost count. I believe we should take care of our planet and not ruin it, but... don't believe the climate stuff. It's all political/corporate nonsense to control people. After this, there will be something else to panic people about. It's a sick twisted game they play on us.

The climate is unstable but the ozone layer has been getting better for the past twenty years. The climate is the least of all our concerns. A global economic depression is worse - and y'know, sort of inevitable at this point in the next 20 years.

Please don't buy into all the climate horror propaganda. I know they make it sound like the end of the world is practically at your doorstep, but the truth is it's not nearly as bad as all that. Im not saying the earth doesn't have some man made problems, but technology will solve these eventually, as it always has in the past. The powers that be want you anxious, and paralyzed with fear so they can better control you and your vote. Don't let them anymore. The earth is gonna be fine, I promise.

Wow, you've really drunk the whole bowl of kool-aid huh? Living with truth can be painful at first after living so long with comforting lies, but I assure you eventually it will feel like pure freedom. Im no fan of any of our government parties here in the US, but if you think that there are any "good guys" fighting for you, and that it's the Democratic party, then I pray one day you see the truth.

I see at least 1 scientific paper per day painting a very dark environmental future. This accounts for hundreds per year 🥲. Not only global warming but microplastics (u breath around 70k particles /day) and so much more. Some forests have stopped fixing co2 and now are net co2 producers. China (and other countries) are destroying marine ecosystems in international waters in front of Argentina. Wildfires in Spain are now 6th generation wildfires (impossible to extinguish). So one and so forth.
