(The last part about banning is not quoted but it is derived from the context.)
This sentence is not from me. It is from an Austrian suicide forum study.
The source is this university-website. https://www.uibk.ac.at/ I don't really know why I cannot give the link from the study. It is opening a powerpoint presentation about suicide forums when I click on it. But I don't want to upload the powerpoint presentation on here this could lead to trouble. (It is in German.)
Here the sentence from the title in the original language.
Prävention:
Sich für die öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit und gesellschaftliche Enttabuisierung des Suizids einsetzen !!
Prevention: raising public attention for the topic and the societal destigmatization of suicide
There are a lot of pro-contra arguments concerning suicide forums in the presentation.
Here is the conclusion of the study.
WIth this study the attribution of risk can be de-dramatized
(•Mit dieser Studie können Gefahrenzuschreibungen enddramatisiert werden)
The biggest group of user wants to communicate with other people who understand them
(•Die größte Gruppe der User will mit Menschen kommunizieren, von denen sie sich verstanden fühlen)
The proportion of users who want to discuss methods is pretty low
(•Der Anteil der User, bei denen es um Methodendiskussion geht, ist ziemlich klein)
The results support the asssumption/stance that suicide forums should not be generally scandalised
(•Die Ergebnisse unterstützen die Haltung Suizidforen im Internet nicht pauschal zu skandalisieren)
I am currently reading a lot of scientifical studys about suicide forums. (Most in German.) They are pretty interesting and they talk about the potential positive (but also negative) impact of those sites. They mention really interesting aspects of which I was not all aware but I can confirm them. Maybe I will talk in another thread more about it.
Though I think there are not so many people who are interested in it.
I think this Austrian study supports my thesis which says legalizing asssisted suicide would be the best form of suicide prevention. They don't say it explicitly. But in my opinion this societal destigmatization can be interpreted as the allowance of assisted suicide.
