So I tested SN today.
I am not Heisenberg in any way. But I tried my best using distilled water. And another test with a scale will follow.
First I put a small amount, knife's end of SN in 50ml distilled water. Then I got another 50ml of distilled water and put one ml of the concentrated water containing SN into the other 50ml of distilled water. Otherwise the concentration would be to high.
So I tested this end test product in a tube of 5ml with the drops, as described in the aquarium test. And it came up deep purple/ red. Dense like water. The reaction I hoped for, being very concentrated at the highest end of the colour scheme.
So then I tried the distilled water itself, it came up very clear purple red, but very dilated, so very clear. Indicating maybe there was some residue. I was expecting completely clear.
Then I tried the first most concentrated water, where I put the salt in first 1/50 and it came up clear yellow and very dilated and even lower then the distilled water, you would expect extreme purple. Because the concentration is more then 50 times then the test.
So I did the experiment a second time and the same thing happened.
First test exactly what you would hope. Deep purple/ red indicating very strong nitrite. (1 in 2500?)
I cleaned the test tube more then before, and distilled water alone came very clear orange. Where I would hope clear of colour altogether but fair enough.
Then I again did the most SN concentrated water (1 in 50) and it came up like clear yellow again. You would expect the most intense colour for the test to make complete sense.
I asked Gemini and it helped with both tests, and it stated that what is probably happening is that the concentration of just 50ml and SN is so strong that it is causing chemical bleaching or reagent exhaustion. The reaction is so heavy it bleaches or oxidises the reagents., stopping the reaction or test of having a chemical response altogether. It is meant for aquarium water after all.
Can anyone confirm this might be the case? Any further test advice is welcome.
The test was just to check if there is nitrite in the product in the first place. I am positive there is. I'll try to do a real test searching earlier posts soon. Using scale and measuring cups till one liter.
