I tied up a bathrobe belt in my closet and tested it when I was siting in a chair. It got me extremely lightheaded and my legs began to start to spasm but I never passed out .
I gritted my teeth and counted to 100 and I was still conscious. What do you think I'm doing wrong?

Possibly not fully cutting off blood supply to the head? Did you feel a lot of pressure in your head? (I'm just guessing)

If you got extremely lightheaded and your legs began to spasm...are you sure you didn't pass out? Time wouldn't appear to pass while unconscious, so you may have passed out at 20, woke up, and counted 21 like no time had passed.

But let's suppose you didn't pass out. Then you didn't apply enough pressure around your carotid arteries consistently enough. That could mean that you didn't lean forward / down into the rope enough (could be a posture issue, could be a sitting-in-a-chair issue - you want your body weight to be doing a lot of the work); it could mean that your bathrobe belt is too wide, or too elastic, and a thinner rope might be better; it could mean that the belt was too low down your neck (did you feel like your head was going to explode without also feeling extremely lightheaded? Pulling the belt up higher might help).

To expand on the posture/sitting-in-a-chair issue - for reference this image explains how much of your body weight puts strain on the rope by body position. If you were sitting, you were probably closest to position C, where it could be that only 17% of your body weight is bearing down on the rope. If you got into a kneeling position, you'd apply much more force around your neck. Note, though, that it's dangerous to test!! Please don't test this unless you're sure you want to ctb.

I know you're in a lot of pain, and I hope that whatever path you choose, you get to have a little less suffering than you have right now <3

It's probably the bathrobe belt not providing enough pressure to the needed areas. It's too soft and compressible. You *may* need to help it by sticking something in between the belt and the pertinent areas of your neck to better direct the force at those points (blue rectangles).

Others may have different, perfectly valid opinions on this. But my hot take is simple: if you're at a point where you think your belt is the problem, then just buy a rope. It's cheap, it's accessible, and it works! Based on my (failed) experience trying to place socks and beanbags and cardboard and stuff between my ligature and my neck (and the number of people I've read on here complaining similarly), sticking something in-between doesn't always work. But if you do everything else right, rope works.

Is this your way of saying you plan on catching the bus in short order? You're someone worth saying goodbye to, if so...

Idk I'm pressing down with my whole body like I'm bowing ,but I think I might just need something better to use to hang myself.

Standing wouldn't really be possible if I'm trying to cut of circulation to my brain.

When you pass out from cerebral hypoxia (which is what's supposed to happen when you compress your carotid arteries with partial suspension), your brain stops being able to regulate motor neurons properly, which can cause such neurons to become hyperexcitable. When your motor neurons become hyperexcitable, random muscle groups just about anywhere in your body can start involuntarily jerking or spasming - this is called "myloclonus". People who witness other people hang often think the other person is having a full-blown seizure; this is because myoclonus can sometimes get so violent that it actually looks like a seizure. Some degree of myoclonus occurs in something like 90% of people who pass out from hypoxia, but the locations and severity of that myoclonus are, as far as I've seen and read, random. And since the people who "stand up" during hanging (i) did so on the basis of random motor neurons firing, (ii) usually don't have injuries bad enough to go to the emergency room, and (iii) aren't the kind of people who voluntarily report failed attempts to medical professionals, there probably aren't studies that determine what the chances of "standing" are ahead of time. If anyone else has stats though, I'd love to see them, as I've been looking for a long time.

May I ask where this image is from? Is it from a hanging-related study? In any case, could you share the source, please?

It's from this hanging-related study.

I had a psychotic break the other day and cut myself repeatedly with a box cutter . I don't want to recover from this , I want to end my existence before I end up hurt myself more or other people more.

I have no one anymore except myself and I can't handle my chronic illness anymore.

Box cutters hurt *a lot*, and psychosis can be nothing short of terrifying. On top of everything else you were already going through, too. This sounds horrible to experience, and I'm so sorry that you have to be the one to experience it.

Not sure whether to say my goodbye here, or if you'll make a goodbye thread, or if you'll still be sticking around for a little while longer. But I'd rather say at least this little bit before you go, than not say it at all. You've always been kind and caring in your posts. And though we don't know each other very well, I always found your presence on here to be comforting - helped me feel a little less alone. I know it's weird to look forward to the messages of a stranger who's been suffering as much as you have, but I often did. You will be missed, though if you do decide that ctb is what's best for you, then I will be happy for you, too. May you find what you're looking for, one way or another <3

Thank you so much , your words mean the world to me.
I'm going to keep attempting until I finally get it right. We all die eventually its just a matter of time. I doubt I'll make a goodbye post , I'll just ctb soon and never come back.
