  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

How do you know that it wasn't due to anxiety?
Because I was just doing a dry run. But anxiety and increased heart rate did kick in when I was about to make a real attempt. Even before I took a breath.

It really depends on the person. The faster your enclosure reaches 100% gas saturation, the faster toward unconsciousness.
@Greenberg wouldn't it be 100 percent as soon as the bag was filled and pulled down over my head? Wouldn't that be a 100 percent nitrogen environment?

Yes, prefilling the bag will work too! Just make sure that you have enough gas.

Yes I too had anxiety, racing heart ect when I was testing equipment. I don't think it was from the nitrogen. I wasn't breathing the nitrogen from the bag though. I just filled the bag above my head then pulled it down but didn't breathe it in. Anxiety can cause nausea too.

@Greenberg when I put the bag on my head it begins to get hot inside really quick, will this not happen when the gas is flowing inside? I don't like that hot feeling that builds up quickly inside when the bag is on my head.

Unfortunately, heat buildup is unavoidable, with a bag. You may wish to consider switching over to either a full or partial facemask.

Please refer to my Jan 26th blog entry as to how the 15LPM threshold was established. Cheers.
Found that blog today. Well-informed and concise. I will give some serious thought to adopting that method, using good materials, after I do some more research and see how well those materials hold up in storage. Much appreciation for the info, Greenberg.

@Greenberg oh no, so even with the cool gas pouring in it's going to get hot in there? Have others noticed this in trials?

No, a mask really isn't an option for me because of claustrophobia I can't even stand covid masks on my face.

I do not think that heat is a problem, because unconsciousness occurs quickly.

Why do you get heat build up? You mean human body heat or from the gas? It's not something I'd ever have even contemplated.

It is primarily the thermals generated via expiration. This becomes an issue if unconsciousness takes a prolonged period of time or the wearer of the bag experiences high levels of anxiety during the process.

Hey, if you cut a big hole in top of the bag, that would get rid of the heat [joke]/

@frostedreef @Greenberg are you still around? I am new here, I am setting up a Sundstrom half face respirator with a reservoir bag, it actually works like a NRB mask but the valves on the respirator seal much better. I just want to know if I can set the flow rate to 10 lpm as it does not need to flush out exhaled CO2 as in the exit bag method.
