There are around 55000 hanging suicides in India every year. At least 90% of them were committed by the people who are illiterates and who do not have access to the internet. They do not look for the neck region where they need to tie the knot. They do not even know the mechanism behind the hanging death. However, they are successful. Why? What makes them successful? What could be the reasons.

Perhaps they learn by word-of-mouth. It may not be as culturally taboo there.

Most of the stories i've seen about hangings in India involve full weight suspension - hanging from a ceiling fan, or tree. I would guess that is a factor.

Other than that, sheer will power?

Probably this. It is hard to back out from full suspension.

They were committed to dieing, didnt need to find a "sweet spot".They were genuinely desparate.Hanging, especially partial, can be a terrifying experience. The whole sweet spot thing has to do with how long you want to prolong your suffering..You can die educated or amateur.Just depends on your desperation, determination.

Their newspapers may also give more details than Western ones regarding methods when it is reported that someone successfully completed an attempt.
